Purpose / This unit standardis for peoplein automotive sales areas who require skill in stock control. People credited with this unit standard are able to: determine stock budgeting levels and stock holding costs in an automotive department; maintain stock control records in an automotive department; and identify lost sales of automotive products.

Outcome 1

Determine stock budgeting levels and stock holding costs in an automotive department.

Evidence requirements

1.1The budgeting levels are established according to the company operating policy.

1.2Stock holding costs are identified.

Rangeinitial investment cost, company storage space, storage equipment, unit stock cost, maintenance cost, dead stock and depreciation, interest, insurance.

Outcome 2

Maintain stock control records in an automotive department.

Evidence requirements

2.1Inventory records are maintained, and the information is translated to determine requirements.

2.2Stock turn is analysed to ensure that stock control practises reflect company policy.

Identify lost sales of automotive products.

3.1Lost sales are identified, and the information is translated to determine future requirements.
