Dear Sharp Community:

A significant construction project is set to begin soon involving all three of our current canopies – the large one in front of our Main Entrance and the two smaller canopies in the back of our first grade classrooms. This project will strengthen and reconstruct the Main Entrance canopy while removing the two smaller canopies in the back of our school. This construction is aligned with our Board of Education’s goal of ongoing facilities improvement.

This construction project is expected to last until spring. There will be intermittent periods of time when our Main Entrance will be temporarily closed, therefore, there is a need to alter our AM student arrival and PM student departure processes. Students will be made aware of these changes and will visit Exits 5 and 14 with their teachers prior to the start of this work. Please see below for an update on both, which are in conjunction with district safety and security measures. A map of our school is also provided, which highlights the temporary alternate Exits 5 and 14, which will be utilized in the upcoming months.

AM Student Arrival –

  • If weather is favorable, students will still line up outside, following our same arrival procedures. As always, students will be escorted into the building by their teacher after the 8:55 AM bell. Students in rooms 101 -104 (Grade 1) will be escorted by their teacher through our Main Rear Entrance. This entrance is the same one students utilize between lunch and recess.
  • If there is inclement weather, all students will enter the building through our Side Entrance by the parking lot (Exit 5) and then again walk to their designated class line in the APR. Exit 5 is the same entrance currently utilized by students who are dropped off during inclement weather.

PM Student Dismissal –

  • All students who are designated walkers will exit the building via Exit 14 – which is located by our garden and bike racks. Please continue to use the designated walkway located in the center of our Bus Loop to cross the Bus Loop and Old Orchard Road. We will continue to have safety patrol, a supervisor, and crossing guard at this walkway.
  • All students who ride a bus home will exit the building via Exit 5 – which is the same entrance they will enter on inclement weather days. Student safety patrol and a staff supervisor will also be at this location.

AM Kindergarten Dismissal at 11:30 –

  • All AM Kindergarten students will exit the building via Exit 14 at 11:30 AM.

PM Kindergarten Arrival at 12:45 –

  • All PM Kindergarten students will enter the building via Exit 14 between 12:45-12:55 PM.

Visitors during the regular school hours –

  • Exit 5 will be our designated entrance/exit for visitors during regular school hours. There will be a staff member at this entrance during the regular school hours of 9 AM – 3:30 PM.

SACC AM Drop-off and PM Pick-up –

  • Exit 5 will be the designated entrance/exit for both pick-up and drop-off of students attending SACC. There will be a designated SACC staff member at this entrance during all SACC hours.
