Insect Drawing and Collection

During our insect unit you will be required to collect, photograph/draw and release 10 different insects from any insect order. The most common insects will come from the following orders: Coleoptera, Lepidoptera, Hymenoptera, Diptera and Orthoptera. You may use a maximum of 3 insectsfrom any order. To receive full credit your project must follow the in instructions below. Photos from the INTERNET will be given zero credit!!!

1)You must collect 10 different insects. You may add one more for five points extra credit.

2)You must make an accurate, detailed, colored drawing of the insects collected. Each drawing should be on one piece of paper, and the drawing should take up the majority of the page space. You may take digital photos of your insect collection. Be sure that the photos are clear and detailed with body parts easily visible. DO NOT USE INTERNET PHOTOS!

3)The pages of your collection must be numbered.

4)Your collection must have a table of contents.

5)On the opposite side of each drawing you must have the following information:

Common Name

Insect Order

Where insect was collected

How the insect moves

Possible food insect eats

Possible predators of insect

Actual size of insect in metric measurement

6)You must also give a short presentation to the class showcasing your two best insect drawings/photos and information.

7)Check the rubric for grading your collection on the back of this sheet. You must turn this rubric in with your collection.After you have drawn and gathered information about your insect return them to their natural habitat ALIVE.
