2Assessment against this unit standard must be based on evidence from a workplace context.

3Personal protective equipment, appropriate for the work being carried out, is to be selected and worn in accordance with company requirements and manufacturer’s instructions.

4Definitions

Company requirementsrefer to all policies, procedures, and methodologies the candidate’s organisation has in place including but not limited to those relating to health, safety, environment, quality, and operations.

Manufacturer’s instructions may include specifications, installation, handling, use, and maintenance instructions and safety data sheets.

Outcomes and evidence requirements

Outcome 1

Prepare to receive bulk grain or seed delivered from harvest.

Evidence requirements

1.1Storage medium is checked for capacity, suitability, security, and condition for storage in accordance with company requirements.

Rangecondition – insects and animals, moisture, foreign material, mould, ventilation.

1.2Storage medium is checked for capacity and suitability for the storage operation in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – access, hatches, structure, delivery vehicle manoeuvring.

1.3Handling and conveyance equipment chosen is appropriate, and has adequate capacity, for the work to be carried out.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – hopper, auger, conveyor, bucket elevator, blower.

1.4Handling and conveyance equipment is checked for condition, damage, wear, and faults; problems are identified; and corrective action is taken in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company requirements.

1.5Logistical readiness is established and verification is made to ensure operations may proceed, in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – communications; product and product sampling and testing documentation; client requirements, correct storage locations.

1.6Hazards are identified and controlled in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – people, animals, delivery vehicles, dust, noise, equipment, height.

Outcome 2

Store bulk grain or seed delivered from harvest.

Evidence requirements

2.1Delivery vehicles are monitored and drivers are given clear directions, to maintain safety and efficiency.

2.2Equipment is operated in a safe manner with no risk of harm to people or damage to product, equipment, or property structures.

2.3Equipment is operated, monitored, and adjusted as required, in order to avoid harvest delays and maintain work efficiency.

2.4Any problems with incoming product are identified and, if required, corrective action is taken in accordance with client and company requirements.

Rangeproblems may include but are not limited to – hot spots, sprouting, contamination, chemical residue, moisture.

2.5Communication is maintained with harvest and/or transport operators to report fluctuations in product and/or work flow, in accordance with company requirements.

Rangemay include but is not limited to – moisture, work rate, available remaining storage, sample quality, delay, break down.

2.6Documentation related to product storage is monitored for accuracy and completeness in accordance with client and company requirements.

Outcome 3

Carry out post-operational procedures.

Evidence requirements

3.1Equipment and machinery are shut down and stored in accordance with company requirements.

3.2 Equipment is cleaned and lubricated, and any damage or faults are repaired, replaced or reported in accordance with manufacturer’s instructions and company requirements.

3.3Documentation for the operation is completed in accordance with company and client requirements, and is stored in accordance with company requirements.
