Student Code of Conduct

The Arizona Association of Junior High Student Councils is a membership driven, student-centered organization dedicated to developing leadership skills. We expect our student leaders to be role models at all times. We expect all Students who participate in the AAJHSC Student Retreat to…

·  Be with an adult at all times for your safety.

·  Wear athletic shoes to be able to participate on the main and practice courts.

·  Use appropriate language at all times, this is a school function.

·  Participate in all the sessions at the retreat.

·  Wear colored wristbands clearly visible at all times.

·  Be attentive and display appropriate audience behavior.

·  Behave in a responsible and safe manner.

·  Dress in appropriate attire at all times. Students should wear retreat shirts, if possible. Students may not wear hats, short shorts/skirts, and tops with spaghetti straps, halter or strapless tops. They may not roll up shirts to show midriffs or backs or cut slits up the sides of their shirts. Students who do not follow the dress code will be asked to change their clothes or leave the Retreat. Backpacks are not allowed in the Talking Stick Resort Arena

·  Silence all cell phones and remember that texting is not appropriate during the Retreat.

·  Understand that the use of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs is strictly prohibited. Any student found in the possession of or under the influence of alcohol, tobacco, or illegal drugs while attending the Retreat will be placed in the direct supervision of their advisor and will be removed from the Retreat facilities. Parents and a school administrator will be notified if such an infraction occurs.

·  Respect the rights and property of others.

·  Remember we are guests at this arena, please clean-up after yourself

You are a leader. Be a role model.

Advisors will be notified if a student(s) are not accompanied by an adult and the advisors will be responsible for correcting the situation. The AAJHSC is not responsible (liable) for any incidents that occur past the adjournment of the Retreat.

The AAJHSC Executive Director will notify the principal of a student’s school of any infractions of the AAJHSC Code of Conduct.

Advisor/Chaperone Responsibilities

·  Your number one responsibility is the safety and supervision of ALL students at ALL times.

·  All advisors/chaperones are expected to attend all activities at the retreat with students. Keep in mind some advisors/chaperones will be running various activities.

·  Remind your students to be attentive and display appropriate audience behavior throughout the sessions. Your students should not be talking during instructions and/or presentations. Students should be appreciative of the efforts of others and applaud appropriately.

·  Make sure ALL cell phones are silenced and students are not texting during the Retreat. Advisors please limit your cell phone use during the Retreat. Step out of sight of the students if you need to use your phone.

·  Discuss the AAJHSC Student Code of Conduct with your students who will be attending the Retreat. Make certain they understand appropriate behavior and proper attire.

·  At game time, please be sure all of your students are with you in a group. Please do not let them go anywhere without an adult.

·  Move around and rotate during the workshop when possible. If you see inappropriate behavior on the part of any student, in your council or not, speak to the student involved, and, if necessary, bring the situation to the attention of the student’s advisor. Please notify a member of the AAJHSC executive board as soon as possible about the situation.

·  Although some of you will not be assigned specific jobs, please feel free to jump in wherever you might be needed. Be ready and flexible to help at any time. We will be more successful if everyone lends a hand.

·  The activities for this retreat will be spread out around the center, so we will not have a hospitality room. When you need to take a break, please be sure an adult is supervising your students.

·  Remember the Student Retreat is a tobacco/drug/alcohol free event.

·  Be sure students use appropriate language at all times. This is a school function.

·  Bring signed codes of conduct with you to retreat.
