2018Girl Scouts of Historic GeorgiaGold Award Scholarship

Eligibility:

  • Applicant must be a currently registered Girl Scout.
  • Has earned her Girl Scout Gold Award.
  • A graduating senior.
  • A minimum GPA of 2.5.
  • Only accredited schools will receive the scholarship funds.
  • No field of study restrictions.

Scholarship amount:

  • $500 scholarship in each of the six regions of the council. (Athens-Gainesville, Augusta, Savannah, Albany, Columbus and Macon).

Timeline:

  • Applications available now. .
  • Applications are due April 15th. .
  • Interviews, if needed, will take place in April. .
  • Awardees are notified by May 6th.

Who:Girls from Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia counties who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award and are planning to attend an accredited college or university in the U.S. [including technical colleges/schools]

Why:To recognize outstanding Girl Scouts who have earned the Girl Scout Gold Award and to provide visibility for the girls and for Girl Scouting in general

How:Funds to be raised through designated donations and fundraisers and will be handled through Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Council (as a 501(c)(3) organization)

Application Process:

Submit the following electronically by email(preferred), by regular mail, or hand delivery to the council office.

  • Email to nclude all documents as attachments to one email date no later than April 15th, 2018. In the subject line, put “Girl Scout Gold Award Scholarship application”.

-OR-

  • Mail or hand deliver application with all documents in one envelope. Applications must be received no later than April 15th at the local Girl Scout of Historic Georgia council office.
  1. Completed scholarship application (typed).
  2. Your Girl Scout Gold Award Final Report
  3. Essay addressing one of the following questions (typed):

a.Explain how the principles and ideals of Girl Scouts have influenced your life.

b.Describe the most challenging situation you have faced while in a leadership role and what you learned from that experience.

  1. High School Transcript (copy/scan of the official transcript acceptable)
  2. Two signed letters of reference. References should be a one page letter addressing your qualifications for this scholarship.

1.One from school-related personnel or

2.One from Girl Scout volunteer or staff member (who is not related to you) or

3.One from community, church, school or other

  1. Copy of the most recent communication with the college/university (e.g., acknowledgment of application; copy of acceptance letter)

Finalists will be asked to participate in an interview (April).

For selected recipients:

  1. Picture (head shot) and permission to use this to publicize selection for the scholarship.
  2. Documentation of enrollment in at least six semester hours of college level coursework at an accredited US college, university or technical school required prior to disbursement of funds to the recipient. Funds will be sent to the institution and applied by the institution to the student’s account.
