TRACK: WEEK OF MARCH 16TH

We are still trying to get organized and do basic training this week. We had a GREAT FIRST WEEK with 110+ kids coming to a practice! I know we will lose a few of those; but there have been new kids showing up daily and we can also still add…Don’t be afraid to recruit for us…we can/could use a lot more kids. Bring some friends!!! MONDAY:Practice today at 3:15: Kennedy

  • Distance: Longer run with builds
  • Sprints: We will be doing some PURE SPEED!
  • Throwers will meet in their groups all week!
  • Situps/Pushups/Stretching

TUESDAY:3:15 Practice:High School(hopefully outside)

  • Distance: Double a.m.; Warmup some type of speed/depends on weather
  • Sprints: Recovery Type running; handoffs for builds…
  • Anyone who has paid fees; uniforms—we will be rotating those in during practice
  • CORE!!!!

WEDNESDAY:3:15 PracticeHigh School (hopefully outside)

  • Anyone who has paid fees: Team Uniforms after school
  • INDIVIDUAL NIGHT FOR EVENTS:
  • Combined with running for warm-ups/cool-downs.
  • Distance will do medium type distance with builds
  • Situps/pushups/stretching

THURSDAY:3:15 PracticeKennedy

  • Distance Runners: Shorter speed so you have optional double.
  • Sprints: Endurance type speed—ladder today going down
  • Warm-up/cool down..sits/pushups
  • Set up our Team Fund Raiser
  • I will hand out uniforms for a few minutes after school if needed

FRIDAY:TEAM PICTURES: HIGH SCHOOL:

Individual shots will start at 3:00 in gym!

  • Have to have uniforms to be in the picture; fees taken care of
  • Situps/Pushups/Stretching following……
  • Most likely; easy recovery type running with builds

NOTES:

  1. Coach Popp is here every day at 6:30 mornings for makeups. Kait will be also coming in for extra discus throws/work..check with her
  1. The track is clear and we will continue to be outside whenever possible and at Kennedy when possible. However, with pictures on Friday and having to get uniforms out,
  1. We are starting our 2nd week so from now on unless we say otherwise, SITUPS AND PUSHUPS are required every night!!! Or core!! There are no exceptions to this!!!
  1. VERY IMPORTANT: This is a varsity sport…YOU DO NOT get to decide “IF” you should be at practice or do a certain practice or skip parts of practice. That is why each year we have about 25% of our team not earn varsity letters or stay home from some meets. You are allowed one unexcused miss to letter…they can be made up. Any more than that is loss of letter. First week was great!---But we had a few kids missing that we have no idea where they were. We want every one of you on our team but you need to be here!!!
  1. If you are going to be gone—music,drivers-ed, jobs… …..plan on what works and be sure to communicate with Coach P. Easy running or lifting..be ready to be running by 6:30…dressed and ready---If you need to talk to him: 320-220-3849
  1. SPIKE/THROWS SHOE RENTAL:
  • We will try to get to those this week but not as important as getting your uniforms out.
  • Bring a check or cash for $10 Sorry, no charging!!!
  • Includes the shoes themselves/the various size spikes that go in them
  • Some of you runners please be aware every time you change the spikes in your own shoes, it costs about $2. If you do that, please contribute $5 to our spike fund and use what you need.
  1. GET A LOCK/LOCER FROM RED/WHITE ROOM
  1. HAVE OUTSIDE CLOTHES HERE AND KEEP THEM IN YOURLOCKER. THEY SHOULD INCLUDE HATS, GLOVES, SWEATS
  • We will go outside if over 40/not too windy/fairly dry
  1. Fundraising starts this week. And we will have order forms for shirts/t-shirts/track clothes to hand out sometime this week. Coach O. will coordinate fundraising. Captains will be doing clothes orders. (Obviously, those have to be decided too!)
  1. If you are in school, you are at practice!!!!
  1. **CHECK ROSTER TO BE SURE NAME IS ON IT

Remember, it is early. Just be here, do your best, be patient, and have fun. Lets get in shape/find an event or two where you can contribute. We will take kids up through the month of March to join our team.

WE are 9 practices to CLC indoor; --that is spring break; right after that. Some runners will be gone 10 days…ouch. Time trials with Brainerd April 7TH; weather permitting, and then we host our home meet two days later. It will be here quickly!!!
