2018 Next Wave Rules and Regulations

VERY IMPORTANT! Each team is responsible for their own insurance for the Tournament.

The Rules of the CAHA and PCAHA will apply with the following modifications:

1) DOCUMENTATION & ROSTERS

Each player and each player’s parent MUST sign the online waiver form. No player will be permitted to play unless this form is signed.

Players are only allowed to play for one team in any single age division. Player's may play for a second team in an older division with the exception that a 2006 player will not be permitted to play in 2005 division. There will be no exceptions to this rule. Regardless of age or gender at no time during the tournament are players permitted to change teams within an age division they are rostered.

Rosters are frozen at the start of each team's first game. Maximum roster allowed is 18 skaters and 2 goalies, Each team is permitted to dress a maximum of 18 players, 16 skaters and 2 goaltenders.

Each team is permitted to have 5 (five) registered staff with only 4 (four) staff behind the bench at one time.

Managers are requested to check in at the tournament official's desk minimum 30 minutes prior to each game time and sign their roster as verified and / or make any required corrections / revisions to their game sheet (Minimum 1 hour before FIRST tournament game). Managers are requested to have copies of birth certificates available in the event that a concern is raised and tournament officials need to verify a rostered player.

2) GAME TIME PROTOCOL

Teams cannot take the ice for warm-ups until the officials are present and wave the team onto the ice. Failure to comply may result in a two minute penalty assessed. There will be a 3 (three) minute warm up prior to the game. Teams are required to provide their own pucks for warm up. Home team will supply 5 game pucks to officials. Home teams will wear light colored jerseys.

There is only one game sheet per game. Game sheets will be returned by the scorekeeper following each game, and managers are welcome to come and take a picture of each game sheet and will be given 15 minutes post game to amend any recorded stat errors before game and player stats are uploaded. Once uploaded - there will not be an option for making amendments to stats. Stat revisions will only be accepted from a Coach or manager.

3) CHECKING FROM BEHIND

2 Minute Minor in the first two periods will be an immediate ejection from that game.

2 Minute Minor in the third period will be an immediate ejection and next game suspension.

5 Minute Match Penalty. Every Match penalty will be reviewed by the Tournament Director but will hold a one game minimum suspension.

4) THREE STICK INFRACTIONS

Any player who receives three stick infractions in one game will be assessed a game misconduct and ejected from the game. This ruling does not have any effect or carry over onto the next game. A stick infraction is defined as a spearing, butt ending, or cross checking penalty

5) THREE HEAD CONTACT PENALTIES

Any player who receives three head contact or check to the head penalties in one game will be assessed a game misconduct and ejected from the game. This ruling does not have any effect or carry over onto the next game.

6) MAJOR PENALTIES

Every major penalty will be reviewed by the Tournament Directorand could potentially have a carryover suspension.

7) GROSS MISCONDUCT

Every Gross penalty will be reviewed by the Tournament Directorbut will hold a minimum two game suspension.

8) MATCH PENALTIES

Every Match penalty will be reviewed by the Tournament Directorbut will hold a minimum three game suspension.

9) FIGHTING

Fighting majors will result in an automatic one game suspension with the instigator receiving a minimum two games suspension. Further suspensions may be implemented by the Tournament Director as deemed necessary. FIGHTING MAJORS WILL BE DEALT WITH FIRMLY!

10) BODY CHECKING

No body checking will be permitted in 2006 divisionof Next Wave.

11) EQUIPMENT REQUIREMENTS

Protective Equipment rules will be in accordance with each team's home minor hockey association rules

12) ZERO TOLERANCE

There will be zero tolerance of referee ABUSE. Offenders will be ejected from the game. The referees will be instructed to give a single warning before ejecting any coach from the game. Any unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Abusive spectators will be required to leave the premises. See PARENT CODE OF CONDUCT

GAME DURATION – 2004, 2005, & 2006

Each game will be 3 x20 minute stop time periods with the following adjustments, if necessary:

•Round robin games tied at the end of regulation will stand as a tie

•The total elapsed time including ice cleans cannot exceed 120 minutes per game. The tournament reserves the right to make adjustments to accommodate for delays in schedules or injury time out.

•If necessary, the time established for the third period will be determined by a league official. Period length may be shortened in the event of a prolonged injury time out.

•Mercy Rule: No goal differential of more than 7 goals will be posted on the scoreboard. There will be no switch to run time.

•Timeouts: Each team is allowed ONE thirty second timeout per game.

•3 minutes allowed between periods, ice scrapes will occur at the midway point in the second period of each game

14) POINT FORMAT

Points for this 2018 Next Wave Hockey tournament will be awarded on the following basis:

- 2 points for a regulation win

- 1 point for a tie

- 0 points for a loss

15) JERSEY COLOURS

The home team will be required to wear light, while the visiting team will be required to wear dark. In the event of a conflict, the team without the appropriate color will be required to change jerseys. As long as the two colors are distinct as confirmed by the referee.

16) MEDAL ROUND SEEDING

Following the round robin games, the teams will be seeded for play in either a playoff or consolation game. Seedings are based on:

  1. Total points accrued in round robin
  2. if 2 teams are tied in points, the winner in head to head will be seeded higher
  3. if more than 2 teams are tied - 1st tiebreaker will be by formula (goals for / goals for + goals against)(GF / (GF + GA)) the higher percentage will be seeded higher
  4. If still tied after 2, & 3 - team with lowest goals against will be seeded higher
  5. if still tied after 2, 3, & 4 team with most goals for will be seeded higher
  6. if still tied after 2, 3, 4, &5 - teams with the most wins will be seeded higher.
  7. if still tied after 2, 3, 4, 5, & 6 - teams with the LOWER PIM’s will be seeded higher
  8. if still tied after 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, & 7 - a coin flip will determine the higher seed

17) STANDINGS

Standings track sheets will be posted in the lobby at Richmond Ice Center venue and will be updated after each round with current seedings posted after each round robin round of games in each division. The website will also be updated (though without the same tracking data) to reflect standings after each round of round robin play.

18) MEDAL ROUND PLAY

Playoffs will be as shown in venue schedules according to each division. There will be no bronze medal games. Only Gold and Silver winners will be recognized. In semi final or final games only, a tie at the end of regulation play will result in a 5 minute run time sudden death overtime period. If overtime does not decide a winner then an NHL style shootout will determine the winner.

20) PARENTS & FANS CODE OF CONDUCT

We value and respect all our guests, families, and fans and encourage them to cheer and support their teams. All the participants are here in the spirit of competition and are trying their best to contribute to their team's success. We remind everyone that success is not measured solely in wins and losses, but also by effort, heart, determination, and having fun with team mates that will provide life experiences. We will not tolerate family and friends cheering against, heckling, berating, or demeaning players, coaches, tournament officials, referees, clock officials, or players on opposing teams.

Any incidents of this behavior will result in a warning first being issued to the offender, repeat incidents will result in the offender being escorted away from the premises. Subsequent incidents by the same offender will result in disciplinary action by the venue director and could include (but is not limited to) potential penalty to or suspension of offender's player, coach, or team

We welcome photography, and video by parents, and fans but will not accept video being presented by any party to an official in an effort to reverse a decision.
