For High School Seniors

Each year the Subcontractors Association of Delaware Valley administers the Albert Milani Annual Scholarship award for a High School Senior who is a son or daughter of a current SADV member. The scholarship is in the honor of Albert Milaniwho was dedicated to the young people of our future and who possess qualities such as working hard and doing right for the community.

From the late 1950’s, Al worked his way up the company ranks as shop laborer, estimator, owner, and executive officer at Crescent Iron Works, a southwest Philadelphia metal fabrication shop.

Al’s company handled large projects essential to the Philadelphia region. In the early 1980s, he collaborated with sculptor Isamu Noguchi to fabricate the Bolt of Lightning sculpture at the base of the Ben Franklin Bridge. He managed the renovation of the 130-year, deteriorated cast iron roof cresting that surrounds City Hall. In addition, the company provided the structural steel for the new Liberty Bell Pavilion.

In the early 1970’s, Al and others purchased the Greenhill Theater in Overbrook for use as a community center. The sloped floor was converted to a flat floor in order to host recreational basketball and volleyball games for neighborhood youth. The center also hosted social dinners, theatrical performances, bingo nights, and other social events. He loved being a youth leader in the CYO at Our Lady of Lourdes parish in Overbrook from 1975 until 1985. He was a powerful and positive force in the lives of countless young people.

In the early 1990’s, Al and his brother, Joseph, founded Crescent Designed Metals, a fabrication shop specializing in ornamental metal. In more recent years, he served as a committee member for Subcontractors Association of Delaware Valley (SADV). Al served on SADV’s Construction Industry Collaborative, a group of subcontractors, owners, architects, engineers, general contractors, and construction managers collaborating to resolve issues that face the construction industry.
