Please note that we have one funding round and will be awarding a total of £20,000 across all projects. The maximum award is £5000. We will fund up to 80% of the total cash costs of the project, the remaining 20% of the total cash costs of the project are to be funded by you, and is in addition to any in kind you or partners are contributing.Your request can be for as little as £100 or as much as £5,000, depending on your project and what you feel you need to make it work.Money cannot be used for marketing, but can be used for market research and the development of a marketing plan, but not to fund the cost of the actual marketing activity.

Payments

Successful applicants will be paid in two instalments: 80% when you are informed your application has been successful and 20% when you provide us with proof of the product or experience being on the market. We will ask you to submit information for our evaluation and we will assist you in promoting it via our Edinburgh World Heritage website, social media channels and will be working with our partners Marketing Edinburgh to explore ways in which to really push all 2017 related activity to the visitor market.

Your application will be acknowledged by return of email and the judging panel will meet in late November 2016and review your proposal against the criteria stated below. We aim to make a decision within four weeks of the submission deadline.

Any data you provide on this form will be held by Edinburgh World Heritageunder the Data Protection Act Scotland 2002, and will be used only for the administration and management of the Year of 2017 Innovation Fund.

ADDITIONAL NOTES

What follows below is just some additional guidance on what we’re asking you to fill in above.

THE CRITERIA
To be eligible to apply you and your project need to match the following criteria.

What qualifies for funding?
All projects must satisfy four key criteria;

1. They must be new Edinburgh based projects.

2. They must have tourist appeal – as well as a strong history or heritage connection, projectsmust be primarily designed to appeal to visitors to the city.

3. They should be innovative – the funding can be used to support new ideas, trialling new experiences or the development of new offerings.

4. They should aim to be financially sustainable – projects must demonstrate long-term financialviability.

The 2017 Tourism Innovation Fund will support history and heritagetourism product development. These can be anything from small events or tourism trails to large scale initiatives, the only proviso is that they enhance the city’s history and heritagetourism offering.

Funding will be prioritised for projects which:

1. Aim to enhance the experience for those who are already in Edinburgh.

2. Address a gap in the existing offering.

3. Complement the existing offering.

4. Provide new long term tourism assets for Edinburgh.

5. Encourage greater exploration of the World Heritage Site.

6. Allow the visitor to access Edinburgh’s history and heritage in a new and innovative way.

7. Support or enhance the telling of the Edinburgh story through its history or heritage.

8. Aim to attract more non-local visitors to the area.

9. Encourage visitors to stay longer and spend more.

The Innovation Fund is focused on providing funding assistance to Edinburgh tourism operators and product suppliers. Any size of organisation within Edinburgh is eligible, sole traders, micro businesses, community groups, collaborative groups, and heritage attractions. Eligible businesses will need to be operating in some tourist related activity e.g.

  • Accommodation providers
  • Visitor Attraction
  • Guided Tours
  • Tour Operator
  • Retailers and Bookshop
  • Restaurants, cafes, pubs and bars
  • Library or Museums
  • Festival or Event and
  • Other tourism or heritage related businesses and organisations

Eligible businesses will be one of the following legal entities:

  • A private business
  • Non-profit sector corporation, incorporated association or trust
  • Charity
  • Cooperative
  • A local authority attraction, library or museum
  • A consortium of partners (led by any of the above category of organisations)

EVALUATION
If you are successful in your application to this fund we will ask you to collect and provide us with the following:

  • the information against the key performance indicators you identified in this form
  • a general statement of how you feel the project has gone, whether in your view it has been successful
  • any other supporting evidence you have

By providing us with this information we can help you promote your product/experience to ensure it reaches as wide a market as possible. It also helps us evaluate and develop this fund.
