2017 Junior Sailing Program
Greetings Sailors,
As the weather is getting colder, we thought it would be nice for everyone to think about the summer! Before we know it, LYC will be open and the Junior Sailing Program will be starting. We are making some changes to our Jr. Sailing Registration process as well as the programs. Please read the following information carefully since some of the procedures and programs have changes from previous years.
1. We are doing a pre-registration form to help the Jr. Sailing program prepare staffing for all programs. Form due by February 1st.
2. We are not collecting any monies at this time, but you will be billed your family amount by March 1st and are expected to make this payment by March 31st without a penalty.
3. If you do not pay the Jr. Sailing registration fee by March 31st there will be a late fee assessed for each month after that date that you do not pay. Payments received between April 1 and April 30th will be assessed $25, May 1-May 30 will be assessed $50 and registrations that are not paid by June 1st will be eliminated from the roster and are subject to availability.
4. Each household that has more than one sailor in the 8 week program will be given a $50 discount per child starting with the second
5. All families will be billed for 1 parent bond ($50), which will be refunded at the end of the session to those who complete their volunteer commitment. (Description on Page 2)
6. All registration forms will be available to you after the pre-registration is completed and need to be returned before the start of program.
7. This year the beginning program will be called “Pre-Sailing”. This program will use a combination of the Hunter boats and Club owned Opti boats that will be used in pairs. This program is going to be a first come first serve program that will be restricted to approximately 20 sailors between the ages of 7-8. We will consider opening an afternoon session if there is sufficient demand, but in order to guarantee a morning spot, you need to pre-register early.
8. Our Junior Sailing Program will run for eight weeks from Wednesday, June 26th to Thursday, August 17th (Kettle Cup).

PARENT VOLUNTEERING BOND
Parents are an important part of the Lavallette Junior Sailing Program and we need you to take an active role in supporting the program. Even though the instructors are able to handle all the daily activities of the various classes, there are several areas where parents are needed. We are asking that you help out in whatever way you can by signing up as a volunteer for one or more of the following areas. This will be explained in more detail at the parent meeting and through the Handbook. Online sign-ups will be emailed to all families, closer to the beginning of the season. If you fulfill the required participation, a $50 refund will be sent to you at the end of the session.
Here are some ways we need you to get involved:
- Parent of the Day – A parent will be at the clubhouse each day of regular instruction. This parent will be on land to facilitate with any emergencies that may be sent in off the water. This parent will have communication with the instructors, in the event that a sailor needs to return to land (examples may include – not feeling well, need to use the facilities, call home, need medical assistance, etc.) A parent/ family member may volunteer for a ½ or full day.
- Lunch Assistant – Since many of our sailors will be staying at the club for lunch on regular instruction days, a parent is asked to volunteer to assist with getting the lunches to the sailors and managing behaviors in the clubhouse.
- Regatta volunteer – LYC hosts two Jr. Regattas – many volunteers are needed in order to have the days run smoothly. Activities include (but are not limited to) preparing breakfast and lunches, sign in and registration, and patrolling.
- Drive a trailer – Parents are needed to trailer the boats to and from local regattas. You must have your own tow vehicle with correct ball.

3. Your LYC account will be billed for the amount you owe on March 1st. Payment is due in full by March 31st. If you pay between April 1st and April 30th (you will be assessed an additional $25). If you pay between May 1st and May 30th (you will be assessed an additional $50). If your payment is not received by June 1st your child’s/children’s spots in the program will no longer be held for them and they may not be able to participate in the program if space does not permit.

5. Opti Green, Opti, Laser, 420 and FEVA will run 4 full days
6. Other fees / charges: LYC Boat Parking Fees ($100 plus tax)are assessed in addition to the sailing program fees. Boat Parking is normally billed and paid for during the annual membership billing process and if not already arranged should be requested through LYC Rear Commodore, George Anderson, before any boat is parked at the club. All authorized boats are issued an LYC Parking sticker.
