Workshop Lesson Learning Objectives/Goals/Essential Understandings:

Enhance the Competitive Edge of Student Artists

Teach your students how to unleash their creative potential by utilizing the Principles of Design. Make art that not only attracts a viewer, but also engages them with memorable images that attack their senses! Emulate the tricks of the old masters and professional graphic artists to win art contests and share their talents with their community. Also, develop strategies to share contest and exhibition info with students and fellow art educators via Google Drive, text reminder apps, and social media platforms.

  1. Introduction and Fun Review of Elements of Art and Principles of Design 10-15 min.
  2. Present Criteria for Success to Enhance Competitive Edge of Student Artists10-15 min.
  3. Group Activity: Poster Contest using Criteria from presentation. 20 min.
  4. Group Share/Reflection 5-10 min.
  5. How to transfer into studio/classroom or curricula (assessment) 5-10 min.
  6. Conclusion/Questions. Sharing of lesson (and poster contests) via Google Drive 5-10 min.

Total Presentation time: 60-90 minutes.

Extensions: Utilize these design strategies on other academic projects, AP art projects/concentrations, preparation for design and creative career outlets.
