FOREST DESCRIPTION:

Mark Twain National Forest consist of 1.5 million acres located in central and southern Missouri and is traversed by rivers and streams, some fed by the largest springs in the country.MarkTwainNational Forest contains a wide variety of natural resources including woodlands of oak, hickory, pine, and maple, oak savannas, rocky barren glades, and clear free flowing springs and streams. These resources provide a sustainable timber supply, minerals, recreation and a home to over 300 species of wildlife and fish. Approximately 23,000 acres of MarkTwainNational Forest is in Ste. Genevieve County. We also have access to approximately five thousand acres private land that adjoins the Baptist Camp.

LAW:

Each hunter is responsible to follow all hunting and fishing regulations. Plants and trees are protected and are not to be damaged. Portable tree stands may be used, but NO SCREW-IN STEPS ARE PERMITTED. We would ask that you familiarize yourself with the laws and the rules of the forest in order that our relationship with the park officials remains unblemished. For more information and regulations visit the MarkTwainNational Forest web site:

PHYSICAL CONDITIONING:

There are many places close to camp for easy hunting. The Ozarks in southern Missouri has some rugged areas. A wounded deer may put you to work. Dragging a big buck up and down hills is tough. Please be physically ready. Please bring and health problems to our attention. People with allergies to bee stings should have emergency bee sting treatment kits, as we are at least 15 minutes from the nearest hospital. Be aware of your surrounding. A whistle, compass and a map will help you to avoid getting lost. If you cannot read a topographical map, please ask for assistance.

MAPS:

StateForest maps can be received by contacting:

Forest Supervisor

MarkTwainNational Forest

401 Fairgrounds Road

Rolla, Missouri 65401

573-3664-4621

We will provide a large topographical map on which we keep track of the hunters.

Upon registration you will be assigned a hunter number. You will be required to put your number on the map. This serves two purposes. First, everyone can see where each person is hunting and avoid hunting too close to one another. Second, it lets us know where to look should any unfortunate situation arise. This is for your own protection.

GAME CARE & SUPPLIES:

THE Peaceful Valley Baptist Camp will have a place where deer can be hung to cool and can be butchered. The packed meat can be frozen in one of the camp freezers. NO UNTAGGED DEER WILL BE PERMITTED ON THE PREMISES. All rules must be followed. All deer must be registered by the game room coordinator and a picture taken prior to butchering. PLEASE BE COGNIZANT OF THE TEMPERATURE & HOW LONG YOU LEAVE YOUR DEER HANG PRIOR TO BUTCHERING. THE Saline Valley Christian Bowhunters or the Peaceful Valley Baptist Camp will not be responsible for tainted meat. Please attend to your deer promptly and clean up your mess. Others may be waiting to process their deer. Dispose of waste properly. There are butchering services available locally.

LODGING:

Lodging at the Peaceful Valley Baptist Camp consists of three dormitory style cabins, one single floor cabin and two, two story cabins. Each floor of each cabin will hold twenty-five or more people. Plenty of room for all of your hunting gear. They will be heated. Please bring your own bedding and linens for twin size beds. We suggest an old throw rug for the floor. There are three shower houses at the camp. Two are heated. We do have room for campers and trailers. We do not have tanks for sewage dump, but it will not be needed because you can park next to the shower houses

MEALS:

Three meals a day are served, cafeteria style, over a 1 ½ to 2 hour period. This allows more flexibility for the hunters to plan their comings and goings into the woods. Provisions are available for those who wish to pack a lunch to take into the woods with them. An ice machine is available in the dining hall.

NO BEER OR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGES ARE NOT PERMITTED AT THE PEACEFUL VALLEY BAPTIST CAMPOR ON THE MARKTWAINNATIONAL FOREST PROPERTY, OR ON THE PRIVATE HUNTING GROUND ADJOINING THE BAPTIST CAMP.

CAMP CLEAN-UP:

Please help us keep the Camp and the facilities clean. All cabins, bathrooms and camp areas need to be cleaned before leaving. Any damages need to be reported immediately. All dishes need to be returned to the kitchen. Keep all trash picked up.
