JOB SPECIFICATION
1. PREAMBLE
The Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service (CYWHS) was established to promote, maintain and restore the health of women, children and young people in South Australia. The Service plans, develops and coordinates health services as part of an integrated health system.
The Children, Youth and Women’s Health Service efficiently conducts and manages, within its identified resources, health services for children, young people and women, including:
· Specialist hospital services
· Primary health care and population health programs
· Integrated community care services
· Services to address the health and well being of particular populations, including Aboriginal Health Programs
· Education and training programs
· Research.
2. SUMMARY OF RESPONSIBILITIES
The Infection Control Project Officer-Pandemic Influenza is accountable to the Infection Control Coordinator (Level 3) for the effective coordination and implementation of a Program to fit check and fit test staff with high particulate filter masks at the CYWHS and ensure that staff are trained in the appropriate use of personal protective equipment. The Project Officer will also be responsible for providing advice and education relating to the CYWHS preparedness and response to pandemic influenza. The position of Project Officer will also involve the collection and evaluation of data relating to the Program and assisting in the preparation of reports.
3. REPORTING/WORKING RELATIONSHIPS
The Infection Control Project Officer-Pandemic Influenza through the Infection Control Coordinator is functionally accountable to the Head of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases and professionally accountable to the Infection Control Coordinator.
· Performance will be assessed regularly based upon the outcomes of the position as detailed in the job and person specification. A process for performance management will be negotiated between you and your line manager.
4. SPECIAL CONDITIONS (Such as non-metropolitan location, travel
requirements, frequent overtime, etc.).
· Some out of hours consultation may be required.
· Some intra / interstate travel may be required
· Must be prepared to attend relevant meetings and staff development / education activities as required.
5. STATEMENT OF KEY OUTCOMES AND ASSOCIATED ACTIVITIES
· In collaboration with the Infection Control Coordinator, plans, manages and reviews the outcome of the program including the management of resources.
· Consults collaboratively with medical, nursing, allied health, support and clerical/administration staff in the planned and systematic implementation of the project.
· Develops and implements an education program designed to direct, assist and support staff in preparing and responding to an influenza pandemic. This includes being responsible for the training of health care workers and other relevant persons at the CYWHS in appropriate wearing of personal protective equipment.
· Is responsible for fit checking and fit testing of high particulate filter masks on health care workers and other relevant persons at the CYWHS and ensures proper recording of information
· With assistance from the Infection Control Coordinator, acts as a resource for matters relating to pandemic influenza preparedness and response.
· Collects and analyses data relating to the program and assists in the preparation of reports
· Works with the Infection Control Coordinator to facilitate appropriate action and to implement strategies to overcome any identified deficits in the program
· Provides support and direction to the Infection Control Link Nurse/Midwives in regards to the program
· Acts as an effective role model promoting infection control principles throughout the CYWHS
· Maintains own competence by updating skills through practical experience and continuing education (including attendance at seminars, conferences and conduction of literature reviews)
· Provides assistance to the Infection Control Coordinator in other infection control duties when required
· Relieves the Infection Control Coordinator where appropriate

ESSENTIAL MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS (Those characteristics considered absolutely necessary).
Educational/Vocational Qualifications
Registered as a Registered General Nurse/Midwife by the Nurses Board of South Australia and holds a current appropriate certificate of registration.
Personal Abilities/Aptitudes Skills (Related to the Job Description and expressed in a way which allows objective assessment).

Experience

DESIRABLE CHARACTERISTICS
