2016 Rockdale Fair Pig Scramble Rules

  • The Rockdale Fair Association will not be responsible for any accidents connected with the pig scramble.
  • Eligibility requirements for the scramble are:

A.Contestant must be a Milam County resident attending public or private school or a non-resident attending a Milam County public, private or home school.

B.Contestant must be an active member of a Milam County FFA Chapter or 4-H Club.

C.Contestant must be a minimum of 5 years old and in Kindergarten as of September 1 of the current year.

D.Contestant must have 1 year of eligibility remaining.

  • Contestant must sign up on the Pig Scramble Entry Form and return it NO LATER than Wednesday, October 12, 2016 to the Rockdale Fair Association, Attn. Julie Eason, 505 E. 10th Street, Cameron, TX, 76520.NO LATE ENTRIES will be accepted.
  • PLEASE NOTE: The pig scramble will be held on Wednesday, October 19, 2016 at 6:30 pm in the show barn arena.
  • The number of heats will be determined by the Pig Scramble Committee.
  • Each contestant will attempt to catch one of the pigs and then pull or carry the pig to the designated area without assistance. Referees will declare winners and order of finish.
  • All pigs must be carried or pulled across the designated area.
  • If two or more contestants catch the same pig, they both will be required to release the pig by order of the referee.
  • Poor sportsmanship will disqualify any contestant automatically and undue roughness will not be tolerated by the referees. Any abuse of the pigs will result in immediate disqualification by the referees.
  • Heats will be refereed by a group of not less than four referees and all decisions of referees shall be final.
  • Scramble winners will receive pig scramble payment after they exhibit theirLivestock/Ag Mechanic project at the 2017 Rockdale Fair. If your animal dies after they enter they do not get the scramble money.
  • The Interscholastic League Executive Committee, in cooperation with the State Board of Vocational Education has formulated a plan permitting the Greased Pig Scramble and still protects a contestant’s amateur standing. This is done by placing the matter under the schools and the 4-H club supervisors, and prohibiting the participants from receiving anything of cashable value for the athletic part of the program.
  • A voucher will be sent to each scramble winner with the sponsor’s address. Each winner must send a stamped envelope with a written thank you note addressed to his/her sponsor within the designated time frame after the scramble. Please leave the thank you notes unsealed and mail them to Julie Eason. Put your name and return address on the thank you note envelope. Failure to comply with writing thank you notes and exhibiting a project at the 2017 Rockdale Fair will result in forfeiture of scramble money.
