2016 GCMGC Toronto

Tibetan Canadian Cultural Centre (TCCC) in Toronto in collaboration with the Tibetan football governing body Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) is honored and thrilled to host “2016 GCMGC Toronto” in July 2016 in memory of the Great Mother of His Holiness the XIV Dalai Lama during His Holiness Trungkar Celebration.

Tibetan communities in North America and Europe have grown over the years and are now in a position to facilitate such a prestigious tournament. This is a great opportunity and a welcome news to all Tibetans living in North America and Europe, especially the younger generation/Tibetan youth who have not had a chance to be a part of this ongoing tradition and to showcase their skills and talents.

2016 GCMGC Toronto Tournament details:

Tentative Tournament schedule: Trungkar Week (July 5-10)

Day 1: / Opening ceremony; Players, Staff and Public meet & greet.
Day 2 & 3: / League matches
Day 4: / GCMGC Championship Match

The above 4 day schedules dates will be finalized shortly. However, there will be no games played on Wednesday July 6 (H.H. Dalai Lama’s Birthday) and Saturday July 9 (TCCC Trungkar Celebration).

Qualification: Due to the constrain and challenge of scheduling a tournament within a short time frame in order to accommodate visiting teams, TNSA North America Coordinator and GCMGC Toronto Committee have decided to limit qualification to a maximum of 12 teams. Upon suggestions and discussions between TNSA North America Coordinator and GCMGC Toronto Committee, invitations will be sent out to the following teams.

2 finalists (Major Tibetan tournaments in 2015) receives automatic berth and cities with largest Tibetan population without automatic berth will also be invited.

Mid-West Tournament (Madison): 2 finalists (Madison and NYC B)

Tenshuk Cup Tournament (New York): 1 finalist (NYC A)

H.H. Dalai Lama Cup (Toronto): 2 finalists (CFC and Snowlion)

Europe Cup: 2 finalists or 2 best teams

Chicago, Boston, Minnesota and West Coast 4 teams (1 from each city)

The short duration of the tournament and the logistics that follows, limits the organizer to the number of teams possible to participate. We hope all teams in North America/Europe understand and support us in this endeavor. This qualification format also encourages clubs to participate and compete at their local regional tournament going forward. The local Tibetan tournaments will continue (e.g. H.H. Dalai Lama Cup will be held in August in Toronto). For further inquiries please e-mail

Disclaimer: “TNSA and GCMGC Toronto Committee will reserve the right to assess and select replacement team if any qualified team cannot participate or drops out”.
