Smoky Mountain Air Charter

Baggage Policy

Actual baggage allowance will depend on the length of the flight, and the number and weight of the passengers. The weight allowance can be increased by decreasing the fuel carried, but understand that this may increase the need for additional fuel stops, depending on the length of the flight.

Because the aircraft is weight limited, you should attempt to minimize your luggage and you should discuss your luggage (amount, size, weight) with the pilot prior to travel. Some items may not fit into the aircraft. Moldable, soft sided luggage is recommended, as is the use of several smaller bags rather than fewer large bags, due to cargo compartment limitations.

Per FAA regulations, each passenger must be weighed prior to take-off along with all baggage. This is to ensure we are within weight restrictions for safety purposes. UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES WILL THE PILOT ATTEMPT TO FLY THE PLANE IF THE TOTAL WEIGHT EXCEEDS THE AIRCRAFT’S WEIGHT LIMITATIONS. If your passengers and baggage exceed the allowed weight and the excess can’t be accommodated with fuel limitations, you will be required to limit your baggage prior to take-off.

Small pets are allowed on board for no additional charge, but are considered part of the total weight allotment.

All luggage and personal items must be loaded onto the aircraft by the pilot. You will need to specify if you have any items that should not be subject to cold temperatures and you will need to identify items you wish to have inside the cabin with you (even personal bags, purses, briefcases, etc. must be loaded onto the plane by the pilot). The pilot reserves the right to inspect the contents of any baggage and may refuse to carry any baggage that does not meet safety standards or contains prohibited items. Upon landing, the pilot will remove all of your items from the plane for you. Passengers are not permitted to load or unload their own baggage.

Bahamas Travel Policy

ALL passengers flying to the Bahamas must have a passport. Birth certificates, driver’s licenses, social security cards, voter registration cards, or any similar type of identification cannot be used as substitutes. Passengers must show their passport to the pilot prior to boarding the aircraft. Passengers who do not have proper identification will not be permitted to board.

Appropriately documented pets are allowed on board for no additional charge. An Import Permit is required from the Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Industry (Nassau) for all animals being brought into the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Applications for such permits, along with a $10 processing fee, must be made in writing to the Director of Agriculture, Ministry of Agriculture, Trade and Industry, P.O. Box N-3028, Nassau, The Bahamas. In order to board with a pet, you must present a proper permit issued from the Ministry of Agriculture, a Rabies Vaccination Certificate not less than 21 days old and not more than 9 months old issued by a Licensed, and a Veterinary Health Certificate issued by a licensed Veterinarian within 24 hours of depature.Animals not meeting these requirements will not be allowed to board the plane.

You may bring alcohol with you. Limitations on alcohol are: 2 bottles of wine and 1 quart of spirits per person.

You may not bring weapons, fresh fruits or vegetables, or hazardous materials. It will be your responsibility to ensure that the items you are bringing back into the US are not illegal. (e.g., medicines sold in the Bahamas over-the-counter that require a prescription in the US, fruits, plants, meats, dairy, vegetables, tortoise or turtle shell goods, Cuban cigars, alcohol or other items in excess of duty-free limits).

Upon arrival in the Bahamas, you will be asked to disembark and stay with the plane while the pilot removes all of your luggage and personal items from the plane and loads them onto a customs cart. You will then be required to wheel your cart into the customs area.

Upon departure from the Bahamas, you will take your own luggage through customs. After your luggage has cleared customs, either you or an airport attendant (depending upon the airport), will take your luggage to the plane and place it outside the plane. The pilot will then load all of your items into the plane, including those personal items you want inside the cabin with you.

All passengers age 6 and over must pay a $15.00 departure tax before departing the Bahamas. This tax must also be accompanied by a pink Bahamas Immigration Card. There may be an additional fee (typically between $75-$100) if you wish to arrive or depart on a weekend or holiday before 9:00 a.m. or after 5:00 p.m. These taxes and fees are not included in your airfare.
