In recognizing that St. Pius X Catholic School is striving to support technological relevance in education and continue to promote reading, students in grades 3-5 and middle school may bring a dedicated eReader, such as an Amazon Kindle eReaderor Nook eReader to school for the sole purpose of reading e-books. All eReaders must be registered with the SPX Library in order to have it on campus. No phone app, Kindle Fire, tablets, etc. are allowed as stated in the parent handbook. The SPX Library also checks out a small number of eReaders from the SPX Library to Middle School students.

Any student who violates any portion of the eReader Acceptable Use Policy below may immediately lose the privilege to use his/her eReaderor SPX library eReaderat school.

eReader Acceptable Use Policy

1.PersonaleReaders must be first registered with the SPX Library by completing the attachedeReader Acceptable Use Policy Agreement Form(signed by parent and child) to be kept on file in the SPX Library. eReaders owned by SPX Library will have a separate Agreement form to complete.

2.eReaders are to be used only for the purpose of reading age-appropriate e-books already downloaded on the device and not for other purposes such as communication, entertainment, music, gaming, etc.

3.Students will not use eReaders to access St. Pius X Catholic School’s wireless network. All eReaders must have cellular and network capabilities disabled (turned off) while device is at school.

4.Books must be downloaded onto the eReader prior to coming to school campus.

5.All material on the eReader must comply with the spirit and policies of St. Pius X Catholic School. Please refer to the Parent Handbook for more details. Students may be asked to show the eReader and its contents to school personnel at any time.

6.eReaders must be used at appropriate times in the classroom only with the approval of the Teacher. TheeReader must not be a distraction for the student or those around him/her nor be a source of any classroom disruption.

7.The student is responsible for the device at all times, and must know how to properly and effectively use their eReader. No teacher should be burdened.

8.eReaders are not to be used during lunch or recess time, only in the classroom at appropriate reading times as instructed by the Teacher.

9.Student will assume responsibility for the eReader and not loan the eReader to another student in school or during travel whether to/from school, on field trips or athletic events, or leave the eReader unsupervised (on desk/in hall/in locker) at any time. The school is not financially responsible for loss or damage to the eReader while on school property or at a school-sanctioned event.

I authorize my child to bring his/hereReader to St. Pius X Catholic School with the understanding that it is to be used as a tool for reading e-books in a classroom at an approved time as allowed by a teacher. My child will comply with the aforementioned eReader Acceptable Use Policy. I understand that St. Pius X Catholic School is not responsible for any damage or loss associated with my child’s eReader. I also understand that a violation of the eReader policy may result in my child losing the privilege to bring their eReader to school.

Student Agreement

I agree to all guidelines set forth in St. Pius X Catholic School’seReader Acceptable Use Policy. I understand that the eReader is to be used as a tool for reading e-books in a classroom at an approved time as allowed by a teacher. I am solely responsible for keeping my eReader in my possession and will not let anyone borrow or use it at any time. I understand that a violation of the eReader policy may result in losing the privilege to bring the eReader to school.
