Mission Statement

The CareerCenter empowers MSU students and alumni to develop skills that will enhance professional preparation oriented toward careers and lifelong career satisfaction.

To accomplish this we will:

  • Inform students and alumni about career development process;
  • Design, develop, and deliver exceptional career development services, programs and events for individuals and groups;
  • Provide quality career opportunities to enhance the academic experience and professional preparation of students;
  • Develop, nurture, and maintain effective partnerships both on and off campus; and
  • Value teamwork and customer service.

Our Structure
The Career Center is comprised of 10 full-time staff, 3 graduate assistants, and 5 undergraduate peer ambassadors. We operate under a college specific model of career services delivery. Within this model, each career consultant is responsible for a college and serves as the tangible link among the CareerCenter, their assigned academic area, and employers seeking those students for internships and full-time employment.

Our Assistantship

A Career Center Graduate Assistantship can help interested students obtain the experience necessary to be competitive in a career servicesjob search upon graduation. These graduate assistantship positions assist students and alumni in the areas of career development and awareness and have as much contact with our student population as possible. This would include, but would not be limited to, such duties as:

  • Individual and group career assessment interpretation utilizing the STRONG Interest Inventory and TypeFocus
  • Mock interviews
  • Outreach presentation development, marketing, and execution to MSU student groups
  • Resume and job search correspondence critiques
  • Major programming event assistance (Career Fairs, Interview Days, etc.)
  • Additional duties as assigned or according to GA’s special interest areas (teaching, research, etc.)

To be competitive in the selection process, prospective students should possess the following:

  • An energetic, customer-driven mindset
  • Initiative to market CareerCenter services across campus to diverse populations
  • Strong communication, research, and presentation skills
  • An interest in the field of career servicesas a potential career path
