2016-2017 Epsilon Beta Convention

Hannibal University, Missouri

Upon Arrival

The Epsilon Beta State Convention for 2016-2017 was held at Hannibal University, in the Northwest region of Missouri. The five school attendees, such as Clinton, Francis Howell Central, Liberty, McDonald County, and Troy Buchanan, met up and signed in at the university in the afternoon, and then proceeded to the auditorium for a short welcoming speech from the previous year’s State President, Erica Holmen. Afterwards, the meeting was continued to bring on the book talks, where members took a Gateway Readers book and gave a one minute summary of the book and a few reasons why everyone else should read the book. There were also book trailers, where they created a movie trailer out of their book of choice. Next, they were followed by the Quiz Bowl, Scrapbooking contest, and photography contest.

After the contests, we proceeded to the party planned by last year's officers. It was superhero themed, with all sorts of food and drinks, with a little station set up for making your own mask. Members were then given a chance to roam around, make new friends, and even pass out campaigning candy for elections. This wasn't our only chance to bond, though. Concluding the party, the five schools left the University and drove to the local Best Western Hotel for a fun night full of surprises, especially if you went to the pool, where there were a few ladies just a tad bit under the influence of alcohol. Aside from this, the night at the hotel was definitely a great time to make unforgettable friends.

The next morning, bright and early, students went down to the lobby to get breakfast, then left to the University to begin the new State Officer speeches. After their speech, runners left the room for the school's to use their delegate cards and vote for their officer of choice.

The educational trip the schools took was to go to the Mark Twain Cave, where we learned so many amazing facts about how people survived on the run and how easy it was to get lost in the never ending cave. All members of Epsilon Beta had an amazing time, and can not wait until next year’s convention meeting!
