2016-2017 COPH Student Association Meeting Minutes

I.  Research Committee

a.  Research Day Wednesday April 5 1:00-3:00pm

b.  Students will not be charged to use easels and boards

i.  May need them the night before to set up

ii.  Research committee will be asked to sign an agreement form stating that they are responsible for any damages

1.  Include the replacement costs on the form

2.  ACTION: Jessica S. will create this form

iii.  Tambu will check to make sure the area is free the night before

iv.  SA responsible for snacks for 70-100 people

1.  Lemonade (or Jessica’s flavored water) and assortment of healthy snacks

c.  Manuscript clusters

i.  Start with a pilot of maybe 2 clusters

1.  Students join clusters with faculty members

ii.  Informally, students are currently interested

1.  Want to formally get students’ opinion

iii.  Idea: During faculty’s presentations, ask if they would be willing to take on a student; use this as a matching opportunity

iv.  Can also approach it as an independent study

1.  The student does most of the work, but guided by the one faculty member

v.  Try to have the faculty presentations end of February

1.  Give students the opportunity to sign up for clusters about a week or two afterwards

2.  ACTION: Kandy and Tambu will communicate further

a.  SurveyMonkey or Google Form sent to COPH faculty to gauge interest

b.  Include date of the event on the form and short explanation of what we are expecting

i.  Up to 5 minutes per speaker

c.  Send out form on 1/29, ask them to return them by 2/6, send reminder 2/6, event on 3/2 12:00pm-1:00pm lunch will be provided

d.  Audience can be anyone from any college

II.  Natalia Trinidad – LPHAC Coffee with Latino Students

a.  Advisory committee for recruiting and retaining Latino students

i.  Consists of faculty and staff

b.  Event during NPHW - Coffee Talks

i.  Not many attended in a previous event

ii.  SA will help promote this event during NPHW

1.  ACTION: Check with LPHAC if they want their event posted across campus

iii.  Aksarben Jones Bros Cupcakes 10:00am-11:30am

1.  Free coffee

2.  Informal meet-and-greet

3.  Date: during NPHW

III.  Evaluation: Ice Skating

a.  Few skaters, others came out for cookies/hot chocolate

b.  The date was good (as opposed to doing it in December)

IV.  Apparel

a.  No more orders this semester; efforts will be put in other areas

b.  Recommend to next board to do apparel orders

V.  Blackstone district

a.  Very supportive of UNMC students

b.  Think about having an off-campus social here

VI.  Capstone Jam

a.  Have 2 panelists and 1 emcee; looking for 1 more panelist

b.  ACTION: Have Thank You cards ready before the Capstone Jam

c.  SA will provide food

d.  Friday February 10 11:30am-12:30pm

VII.  Spring Open Forum/Townhall

a.  Thursday February 9 12:00pm-1:00pm

VIII.  Updates from Activities

a.  Spring COPH Volunteer Day is set and ready to go

b.  Combine Spring Open, Capstone Jam, and COPH Volunteer Day into one email

IX.  Next Meeting: Friday February 3 12:00pm-1:00pm
