Comments/Explanations

Stewards accepted the explanation of Trainer M Trinder for the late notification of rider for Coin Toss in Race 1 tonight.

Trainer S Brunton was fined $50 under LR 13.3 for the late notification of riders for Demons Run and Step The Pedal in Race 2 and another $50 for the late notification of rider for Matiano in Race 8 tonight.

RACE 1 – BALMORAL ON YORK 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1600 METRES

Gary White trainer of She’s Rosie was fined $50 under the provisions of AR 175(g) the particulars being that he saddled his horse with the incorrect saddle which could have lead to a breach of the rules. In assessing penalty Stewards took into consideration that Mr White was correcting his own error.

Somatra jumped away awkwardly and was then hampered by Off The Grid which shifted in.

So Much Fun was slow into stride.

Approaching the 200 metres Hoffsetter shifted in and brushed Off The Grid which had commenced to weaken.

Over the last 100 metres Bidirectional laid in when under pressure.

Victor Wong rider of Somatra was notified that he should modify his whip action so that it conforms to the rules and his arm action does not rise above shoulder height.

Subsequent to the race Edwin Batt trainer of Tymoshenko advised that the mare had bled from both nostrils. Mr Batt was advised of the provisions of AR 53A (4) in that Tymoshenko may not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective today, whereafter it is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward.

Damien Thornton rider of Aussie Alice which performed below market expectations explained that in his opinion the filly did not appreciate the firm track surface.

RACE 2 – JANSZ CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

Following a report from the starter relating to Jacques being difficult to load and then becoming fractious in the barriers, Stewards notified connections that a warning has been issued against the gelding’s manners.’

Sunday Cider jumped out and inconvenienced Rougeau.

Shortly after Step The Pedal was hampered when tightened for room between Blaze Forth which shifted out and Marie Clare taken in slightly by Jacques.

Approaching the 1000 metres Beaufort Lad raced erratically and attempted to shift out away from the rail resulting in Daniel Ganderton rider of the gelding became unbalanced and Beaufort Lad losing its position. As the racing manners of the gelding could not be attributed to any external factor, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s racing manners and notified that a repeat performance may result in more severe action. Beaufort Lad continued to race greenly for the majority of the race.

Near the 1000 metres Rougeau and Blaze Forth raced tightly due to Rougeau attempting to maintain its position to the outside of Sunday Cider’s heels. Blaze Forth then over-raced for some distance.

Jazzy’s Choice over-raced in the middle stages.

Passing the 400 metres Marie Clare was inconvenienced when Blaze Forth (Y Nishitani) shifted out when not sufficiently clear. Yassy Nishitani was notified to exercise more care when in similar circumstances.

Near the 300 metres Marie Clare was inconvenienced when Blaze Forth shifted out away from Rougeau.

Shortly after Step The Pedal which was racing to the outside of Marie Clare shifted out and took Allgone out onto Demons Run which had to be checked.

**Stewards upgraded the track to GOOD (3) retrospective to Race 1**

RACE 3 – HELLOWORLD BM62 HANDICAP - 1600 METRES

Big Pegg was declared a late scratching at 1.19 pm following a report from the trainer that the mare had a laceration to the near foreleg. Trainer Kelvin Hamilton was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Big Pegg racing again.

Following a report from the starter that One Shot Off was fractious and lashed out behind after being loaded, connections were notified that a warning has been placed against the mares manners. One Shot Off was examined by the veterinary surgeon inside the barriers and passed fit to take its place in the field.

The Princeling was slow to begin (1L).

Alilad began awkwardly and contacted Krake which was taken out by Another Concerto.

Shortly after the start Varian was tightened for room by Viva La Verve which shifted out away from Niloufar which had shifted slightly.

Approaching the 1200 metres Peace Keeper got its head up when being restrained and shortly after shifted out slightly. Niloufar (V Wong) which displayed a slight tendency to lay in then shifted in quickly resulting in Peace Keeper having to be checked to avoid heels. After taking into account all the circumstances, no action was taken other than to notify Victor Wong that he would be expected to do more to protect his fellow riders than he did on this occasion.

Near the 800 metres Varian which was racing to the inside of The Princeling was tightened for room when that gelding shifted in initially before being corrected by its rider. The tightening was aggravated when Incumsdacash also shifted in slightly at that stage. When Varian was tightened it brushed the running rail, shifted out and unbalanced The Princeling and Incumsdacash resulting in Varian being checked and losing its position. After taking into account all the circumstances which included that the incident happened at the point of the corner, no further action was taken other than to notify all riders involved to exercise care.

Rounding the home turn and in the early part of the home straight Another Concerto was held up for a clear run. The mare then had difficulty obtaining a clear run from the 150 metres.

Approaching the 200 metres One Shot Off when attempting a run where there was insufficient room between Aliliad and Niloufar was then tightened when Niloufar shifted out slightly.

Passing the 100 metres The Princeling was tightened when racing to the inside of Col’s Hero which was laying in when under pressure.

Bulent Muhcu rider of Musique Player was reprimanded under AR 137A(5)(a)(ii) the particulars being that he used his whip on six occasions prior to the 100 metres which is one more than the permitted number.

Stephanie Thornton rider of Varian explained that after receiving interference the gelding felt amiss in its action and she did not ride the gelding out. A post-race veterinary examination of Varian revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Boris Thornton rider of Peace Keeper which performed below expectations and was eased down from the 300 metres explained that the gelding had a tendency to lay out and in his opinion did not appreciate the firm track. A post-race veterinary examination revealed no obvious abnormalities.

Daniel Ganderton rider of Alilad which performed below expectations explained that the gelding did not respond to his riding from the 400 metres.

RACE 4 – TAS HOTEL & CATERING SUPPLIES BM72 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

Prior to this race connections of Wanaea advised that due to the mare drawing the outside barrier they would assess whether to go forward or back during the early stages of the race.

During the middle stages Finalargee raced greenly.

Passing the 200 metres Derwent was eased to avoid the heels of Keukenhof which shifted in.

Passing the 100 metres Finalargee laid in when under pressure.

Over the last 100 metres Hyperbole had difficulty obtaining a clear run.

RACE 5 – UBET.COM STAKES – 1200 METRES

Geegees Doublejay was slow to begin (1L).

Passing the 400 metres Geegees Doublejay shifted out and then became unbalanced after contacting Tennessee Drive.

Subsequent to the race Stuart Gandy trainer of Geegees Doublejay reported that the gelding had sustained wounds to its hind legs. A veterinary report revealed that the gelding had minor lacerations to both coronets.

RACE 6 – STEVE’S LIQUOR THOUSAND GUINEAS – 1600 METRES

Shortly after the start Bella Abati was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Teriki which was taken in by Millrace.

RACE 7 – MCCRIMMON INSURANCE CLASS 4 HANDICAP – 1200 METRES

Boris Thornton was granted permission to ride Triple Bee ½ kilo over the allotted weight (55kg).

Following a report from the starter that King’s Spirit was fractious after being placed in the barriers, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the gelding’s barrier manners.

King’s Spirit and Triple Bee were both slow to begin (1L).

Bella Venus and Lake Fergus over-raced in the early stages.

Near the 400 metres King’s Spirit was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Triple Bee which shifted out.

RACE 8 – CASCADE BREWERY 3YO & UP MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES

Boris Thornton was granted permission to ride Ansaam ½ kilo over the allotted weight (55kg).

Anthony Darmanin rider of Inheritance was harmlessly dislodged en route to the barriers.

Following a report from the starter that Inheritance was fractious and reared after being placed in the barriers, connections were advised that a warning has been placed on the mare’s barrier manners.

Inheritance and Tomarata were both slow to begin (1L).

On jumping away Geegee Hot Novel shifted out and bumped with Matiano.

Passing the 800 metres Inheritance when over racing had to be checked off the heels of Credaro.

Ansaam raced wide throughout.

Near the 150 metres Noblecourt laid in for a short distance and approaching the winning post brushed with Gee Gees Cool Gal.

Approaching the 100 metres Colonial Coaster displayed a tendency to lay in and was inconvenienced when Gee Gees Talk Fest shifted out slightly.

From the 100 metres to the winning post Matiano laid in when under pressure.
