Human Motor Development (PET 175)

Undergraduate majors will examine motor behavior changes across the lifespan, the processed that underlie these changes, and the factors that affect them. Course information will emphasize the interacting factors of the individual, task, and environment that affect motor development.

Sport for the Exceptional Athlete (ACE 315)

Examines the past, present and future of sport for athletes with disabilities and those competing at the Master-level. The focus is on the coaching of these unique populations of competitive and recreational athletes.

Practicum: Coaching Exceptional Athletes (ACE 488)

Integration of theoretical knowledge and development issues with practical field experiences working with exceptional athletes

Practicum Coaching Youth Sport (ACE 489)

Integration of theoretical knowledge and developmental issues with practical field experiences in coaching youth.

An analysis of the various types of qualitative and quantitative assessment tools used in physical education. Emphasis on assessing both the process and the product of physical education.

Adapted Physical Education (PE346, Spring & Fall 2013, Spring 2014)

Focuses on the preparation of physical education teachers to assist handicapped students who are participating in segregated classroom settings and mainstreamed or inclusive education. Included is an introduction to a variety of handicapping conditions and related medical terminology commonly found within the K-12 educational setting.

Introduction to the identification, analysis and evaluation of fundamental motor patterns, progressions in skill development, and pedagogical skills for effective teaching. Analysis, evaluation, and development of personal movement and sport skills.

Motor Development and Elementary School Physical Education (PE 217, Fall 2013)

A study of the growth and development of elementary school children. Identification and practice of suitable program content organized in a sequence of activities. Work with elementary students on implementation of proposed activities and evaluation of their suitability.

Developmental Physical Education for Elementary School Teachers (PE 224, Spring & Fall 2013, Fall 2014)

A study of the developmental characteristics of children, preschool through eighth grade, and the appropriate types and kinds of physical activity that educate the child. This course is for elementary education majors only.

Motor Learning and Secondary School Physical Education (PE 318, Fall 2013 & 2014)

Course focuses on secondary school physical education including innovative programming ideas. Motor learning concepts are integrated into the course content both theoretically and in an applied manner. Work with secondary students is an integral part of the course.
