Individual and team fees are due to Baseball Manitoba by June 1, 2015 for all leagues. Leagues will remit the amounts, based on the number of registrations received per age category and the number of teams. Two templates are available for leagues to complete and return to Baseball Manitoba (a Word document you complete, and an Excel file that calculates the totals for you). Both are attached to this email.

Rawlings Onboard as Official Baseball, Helmet and Uniforms Partner

Starting in the 2015 season, Rawlings Canada and Baseball Manitoba will embark on a three year partnership agreement to develop and improve baseball across the province. Rawlings will be the “Official Baseball”, “Official Uniforms” and” Official Helmets” of Baseball Manitoba.

Diamond stock can be used up in league play.

Blue Jays Honda Super Camps

Throughout the 2015 summer, the Toronto Blue Jays are partnering with Baseball Canada to bring amateur players the Blue Jays Honda Super Camps - and they are coming to Manitoba for the 5th consecutive year! This two-day camp for children ages 10-16 will be held in Brandon, set forAugust 12-13. Players will learn skills and techniques from former Major League players. To register go online at

Team Rosters

To expedite the roster information and provide Baseball Manitoba and the membership with information through consistent and valid addresses, we are going to change the way rosters are submitted. What we are going to implement for 2015 is the following:

  • Coaches (or Team Managers) will be directed to complete an Excel file with their roster information
  • This file will be emailed to their community or leagues registrar for approval. Some leagues may have the rosters sent to a central registrar, while others will have the roster go through the community or community centre before going to the league registrar.
  • Once verified by the league, the forms will be emailed to Baseball Manitoba where we will store the information in our database
  • Because the information will be completed sooner and signatures are not required on the rosters, leagues will be able to submit the “AA” and “A” rosters by May 15. Junior, Senior and “AAA” rosters can still be submitted by June 15.
  • Doing this would provide Baseball Manitoba with an accurate list of names, addresses, phone number and emails for insurance, communication and eligibility (age/region, etc.) and an indication of registration numbers earlier in the year, instead of waiting until June or July.
  • Roster forms will no longer be included in the coaches kits. Coaches will be directed to contact their league for a roster file to complete. Leagues may also take the initiative of providing their coaches with the roster file once they are known.

Rule Changes

The following rule changes took place at the Baseball Manitoba Semi-Annual Meeting in November:

  1. Rule 5.01.03 to be removed. City teams will now fall under rule 6.04.02.

The city teams will now fall under the same rule that is in place for rural teams (6.04.02) This rule does not allow any pickups for provincials to a team that comes from a league without a “AAA” team.

  1. Grand Slam Program

It was agreed by all minor leagues that they will adopt the Grand Slam program for 2015 to replace the Rookie Program.

  1. Killarney (oversize) home plate

It was agreed by all minor leagues that the leagues will use the Killarney plate (the oversize homeplate) for all 11U “A” and “AA” competition.

Grand Slam

Baseball Manitoba has committed to Grand Slam for 2015. This will be the 2nd year that Grand Slam will be used for the 9U Provincial Jamboree. The idea for this program is to introduce baseball skills through more instruction to the players. This is obtained by fielding a team with six (6) instead of nine (9) players. This is simply eliminating the three (3) outfield positions and replacing them with coaches so they can help coach or parents. Rules can be modify to your area needs in regards to pitching (Coach Toss, Coach Pitch, Side Toss, Batting Tee or Pitching Machine). There will be a pre-season Grand Slam Indoor Tournament April 18th at the U of W Rec Plex. This will be FREE of charge and will include clinics and games. The Provincial Team will be working out at the same time. Open to ALL of Manitoba. Deadline to enter teams is April 10th. Email Jason with coach’s name and number of players.

Grand Slam Jamboree

This summer will mark the 18th year for the now-named Grand Slam Jamboree, a non-competitive tournament focusing on fun and participation for players 9U. This event will feature 1,400 children participating in an enjoyable environment held in several locations across the province. The Jamboree is aimed at children aged 7 – 9 and is designed to recruit and retain members in this important age category while promoting the virtues of Grand Slam. It is suggested that this year the Regional Grand Slam Jamborees be held Saturday, June 13 in the various regions and leagues across the province. All participants receive a Jamboree medallion and a certificate of participation. Teams will also be randomly selected to participate in a Provincial Grand Slam Jamboree held on Saturday, July 4 prior to a Winnipeg Goldeyes game at Shaw Park. Grand Slam teams involved in the Jamboree must be registered with Baseball Manitoba, so get your teams signed up! The Jamboree is very easy to deliver and provides exposure and value for your Grand Slam teams.

5-Tool Player Camps

The 5-Tool Player Camps are gearing up for a 3rd great year. These Player Development Camps, for players age 6-13, will run from the middle of May to around the middle of August and target all areas of the province. The goal is to have the camps run in two locations within each baseball league. The 5 tools that this camp will focus on are: throwing, running, fielding, hitting and game strategy. The camps are affordable, so contact Jason Miller, Program Director, to book your camps now!

My First Pitch

This is an initiative to teach correct pitching mechanics to players aged 11U. Baseball Canada has developed a coach’s manual aimed at developing pitchers in this age group. The idea is for each league to host at least one My First Pitch clinic with local mentor and Baseball Manitoba clinicians helping the club team coaches and players. Club team coaches will continue the program throughout the season. To learn more about the My First Pitch Program, contact Jason Miller at the Baseball Manitoba office.

Girl’s 12U Provincial Championships

New for 2015 is an 12U Girls Provincial Championship. The Grassroots Committee would like to conduct this league team based tournament to replace Girls Baseball Day. The event would be held August 8-9 in Portage la Prairie and would feature girls 12U teams made up from players from each league. Leagues are encouraged to promote this idea and try to put together a team for this event. Contact your league’s Grassroots representative, or Jason Miller at the Baseball Manitoba office, for more information.

Baseball Manitoba Provincial Championships

a. Provincial “AAA”

The 2015 “AAA” Provincials will follow the same format as the last few years. The 13U and 15U “AAA” Provincial Championships will be conducted with 10 teams with the top 4 teams from the 2014 season automatically receiving byes to the Provincial Championships. As the 13U “AAA” Host, St. James will also receive byes to provincials. The remaining teams will play in a qualifying tournament to determine the 5 remaining teams to make the provincial championships a 10 team event. The Qualifying Tournaments will be held the weekend prior to the Provincial Championships.

At the 13U division, all the teams will be in the provincials, which will be held one week prior to the other “AAA” provincials. This move is made necessary to avoid any conflict with the Baseball Canada Cup. Listed below are the teams receiving the byes, along with the hosts, and teams that need to qualify.

2016 Manitoba Summer Games

Baseball Manitoba is proud to be a part of the 2016 PowerSmart Manitoba Summer Games in Steinbach and surrounding communities, and the legacy that these Games provide to the region. The Manitoba Summer Games will take place August 7-13 with the baseball event being played in Mitchell. Baseball at the Games will be for players who are Minor Bantam – 14 years of ages as of December 31, 2002 or younger. All athletes must be a minimum of thirteen (13) years of age as of December 31, 2016.

All six Sport Manitoba Rural Regions will have All Star teams identified for the Games. The remaining two spots in the tournament will be represented by two Winnipeg All-star teams. These regional all-star teams will be made up of players who are 1st year Bantam and 2nd year Pee Wee.Each team will have 13 players, and the competition will be played on a Bantam sized field. In Winnipeg the top 26 players will be selected and divided into the two teams.

Regional Identification/Selection Camps

Regional Coaches are currently being identified and these appointed coaches will be directly responsible for the program activity within their Region, with the identification camps and team selection their responsibility. This year will involve player identification and some off season programming.

Key Notes:

  1. These are regional All-star teams, so players will come from several teams.
  2. Regional team selection is by Sport Manitoba boundaries, not Baseball Manitoba. Therefore some players will represent a region they do not normally play in. Some examples are:
