DIY Worm Bin

Make it, use it.

Materials: (lengths/amounts are dependant on desired size)

· 1”x4” boards

· ¼”x1” wooden strips

· Aluminum mesh (1/4” holes)

· Nails/screws

· Staples

If you are mounting the bin over a container to catch the worm “tea,” measure the opening of the container. Add 3/4” to the width and length of the container opening. This will be the width (side A) and length (side B) of the top of each tier. Using the 1x4 boards, all cuts should be made at 18° with a 7° bevel. First, cut all of the side A boards measuring long end to long end. Then, subtract 1 and 5/8” from the determined length and cut all of the side B boards with the same angle and bevel. Next, assemble the boards by nailing/screwing the side A boards onto the side B boards. Then cut the mesh to be slightly less than the dimension of the bottom of the tiers and staple it on. Finally, tack on the ¼” strips of wood to cover the mesh so the tiers are safe to handle. Make sure the tiers nest into one another and that they will slightly nest into the container – ensuring the tea will drip into it and that the wood is not sitting on the bottom of the container. Be creative with the top. It should not need to be airtight.
