ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO REQUEST THAT THE DEPARTMENT OF TRANSPORTATION NAME THE INTERCHANGE LOCATED AT EXIT 49 ALONG INTERSTATE HIGHWAY 26 IN LAURENS COUNTY “SGT. BRANDON F. EGGLESTON MEMORIAL INTERCHANGE” AND ERECT APPROPRIATE MARKERS OR SIGNS AT THIS INTERCHANGE THAT CONTAIN THIS DESIGNATION.

Whereas, Army Staff Sergeant Brandon Forrest Eggleston was a 2005 graduate of Western Carolina University; and

Whereas, he enlisted in the Army in July 2006, completed the Special Forces Qualification Course in March 2009 and was assigned to his unit at Fort Bragg, North Carolina; and

Whereas, on April 26,2012, while assigned to Company B, 4th Battalion, 3rd Special Forces Group (Airborne) in support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Army Staff Sergeant Eggleston made the ultimate sacrifice when he tragically lost his life when his patrol vehicle struck an improvised explosive device in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Eggleston was twentynine years old and completing his third deployment at the time of his death; and

Whereas, he is survived by his devoted wife, Karen, their two daughters, his mother, a sister, and other relatives; and

Whereas, Staff Sergeant Eggleston’s military awards and decorations included the Army Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghan Campaign Medal with two campaign stars, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Purple Heart; and

Whereas, it would be fitting and proper to forever recognize Staff Sergeant Eggleston’s exemplary service to his county in defense of our freedom by naming a highway interchange in Laurens County in his honor. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:

That the members of the General Assembly request that the Department of Transportation name the interchange located at Exit 49 along Interstate Highway 26 in Laurens County “Sgt. Brandon F. Eggleston Memorial Interchange” and erect appropriate markers or signs at this interchange that contain this designation.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to the Department of Transportation.
