STEM Camp / Gear Up Coordinator

This job is a part time, non-benefited, FLSA non-exempt position in the Life Science Division that reports to the Dean of Life Sciences.

Hours: Not to exceed 19 hours/week.

Salary: $30 per hour.

Minimum Qualifications:

The candidate must have a Bachelor’s Degree in a science-related field. . He/she must have strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills with experience in developing assessments.

Preferred Qualifications:

Preferably, the candidate will be familiar with Gwinnett County Public Schools and the Gear Up Program.

Job Description and Responsibilities:

The coordinator will be responsible for organizing the 2-week Summer STEM Camp program (June, 2017) at GTC for rising 10th (Biology) and 11th (Chemistry) students in the Gear Up Program. In the first week of camp, the director will work with selected chemistry and biology teachers from local GCPS high schools to develop lesson plans that fit into the high school curriculum. During the second week, the coordinator will organize student activities and coordinate the teaching of those lesson plans to student campers. The coordinator will work closely with GTC faculty during the camp.

In addition, the coordinator will organize science labs during the year at Gwinnett Technical College for the middle schools involved in the Gear Up program. The coordinator will also promote career exploration through exposure of the Gear Up students to career programs at GTC.

Job Responsibilities:

1. Order materials and supplies for the STEM camp.

2. Work with selected GCPS chemistry and biology teachers to develop appropriate lesson plans for STEM camp.

3. Order meals for the teachers and campers.

4. Work with GTC faculty to facilitate camper exposure to the programs and offerings at GTC.

5. Work with GTC faculty to create additional biology and chemistry activities for campers.

6. Develop pre- and post- assessments for teachers and campers.

6. Display a high level of effort and commitment to performing work; operate effectively within the organizational structure; demonstrate trustworthiness and responsible behavior.

7. Accept direction and feedback from supervisor and follows through appropriately.

8. Work when scheduled; begins and ends work as expected.

9. Perform other duties as assigned.
