BANKNOTES and Miscellaneous

This part of the “Big Summer Price List” has a few odds and ends, some samples of second-hand albums and binders, and two pages of Banknotes from stock.

In the past year there’s been quite a lot of change in the UK business of stamp albums and accessories,
with one major wholesaler and producer retiring, and other businesses filling the gap that was left. This has meant that many products have carried on unaffected, others have been replaced by other producers, some items have simply become unavailable, and many dealers have had to rearrange their sources. In our own case, we have now used six different suppliers to get material we used to get from one !
There’s a couple of minor accessories which have become difficult to source, but which we are able to supply;
{A} Small self-adhesive photo corners. Boxed reels of 250 clear corners, at £1.40 per box of 250.
We have virtually run out of these, but have new stock on its way to us, which we expect to be the same specifications and the same price. As the next size up is £8.95 per hundred, we are sure these will remain popular !
{B} Just to show that we think it important to supply even the less popular accessories, we also now
have back in stock the little glass dropper bottles used for dispensing sensible quantities of watermark fluid. We used to get these from our regular philatelic wholesaler; we now get them from a medical supplies company. Price each £1.60

METAL ADVERTISING SIGNS
This has nothing to do with stamps, but kind of fits in with our perceived “nostalgia” style business. (It is difficult to explain why, but lots of people who come in to our shop think that it is really “old-fashioned”, even though we don’t go for that image. Is it because we trade in old items, or are specialist shops generally seen as being quaint ?)
We do a good steady trade in these signs, many of which are reproductions of old adverts and posters. Our sales are almost entirely from people passing by our shops. In fact many people mention that they saw them while they were stuck at the traffic lights ! They are definitely not suited to mail order, but if you are in our shop, feel free to look through our stock of these. They are very popular as presents, helped by the wide range of subjects and styles. They are all the same price at £9.75 each, and you will often see the same things in other shops at £12 or more.
We have a page on our website which tells you more; See

KILOWARE
We always have a wide range of kiloware, though in recent years the most difficult thing to keep stocks of has been decent recent UK kiloware. Just keep in touch if you want some and you’ll be lucky sometimes !
Two of the most popular bags we steadily sell are world mixes. The World “Superior Grade” has hardly any UK and usually quite a good range of countries. Approx.120g for £4.25, or approx.1kg for £32.75
The World “Standard Grade” will have a little UK, and a higher proportion of stamps from recent decades, but still has a good mix for sorting. Approx.120g for £2.25, or approx.1kg for £17.75
Kiloware is easy to post, but is heavy !

Second-Hand Albums
We break down many collections and end up with lots of empty albums. These are popular with our shop customers, some of whom check our boxes regularly. Some of these empty albums and binders are virtually as new, and at the other end of the scale some are more functional than pretty ! There’s everything from standard popular lines to those which are quite unusual.
Here’s a brief list of some to give a flavour of what can be available. Stocks vary even from day to day.

MAIL ORDER ? Not the easiest stock to deal with at a distance, but as long as you are willing to give us a bit of slack, we can usually fulfil an order for standard things, for example “Can you send five medium-size springback binders ?”

Royal Mail First Day Cover albums, Postcard albums, Presentation Pack albums, and 4-ring Stamp albums, normally between £7 and £12 depending on condition.
Standard Size Springbackbinders, for example Gibbons Simplex Standard, Gibbons Utile, Gibbons Senator Standard, Prangnell-Rapkin Crown, Kingston, Albany, etc. Normally £3 to £15.
Medium Size Springback binders, such as Gibbons Simplex Medium, Senator Medium, Prangnell-Rapking Viking, Utile, Swiftsure, etc. Normally £3 to £5.
Junior Size Springback binders, for example Frank Godden Kent, etc. Usually £1 to £4.
2-Ring Binders 50p to £3.
3-Ring Binders (fit a limited range of pages, but some do fit the Prinz System leaves) £1 to £4.
4-Ring Binders in standard fitting, £3 to £7.
Lindner, Safe, Schaubek, and KA-BE multiple-ring fitting binders, usually £5 to £10.
22-Ring Binders such as Gibbons Ring-22 or Universal, Collecta, Boots Collecta, Prangnell-Rapkin Mult-o-Ring, etc. £4 to £10.
Gibbons Swing-o-Ring very specific mechanism which fits nothing else. Usually about £4 or so, but almost impossible to get extra pages.
Cover Albums (Single Pocket) lots of different makes and types e.g. Arch, Boots, Royal Mail, Pioneer, and so on. Wide range of prices from 50p to £8.
Cover Albums (Double Pocket) again in a wide variety such as Kestrel, Chiltern, W.H.Smith, New SG, Benham, etc. Price range mainly £5 to £10.
Peg Fitting (two post) Devon £11 to £20, Exeter £7½ to £12.
Stockbooks anything from 50p to £15 (but tend to sell very quickly – sometimes for not a great deal less that the price of a new one !).
Printed Country Albums; we often have a range of these, usually in really quite good condition. Most commonly for countries like U.K., Channel Islands, etc., but occasionally for others.
