2014 Champions forEquality and Justice Awards
The Champions for Equality and Justice Awards presented by Disability Rights North Carolina seek to recognize and honor the contribution of advocates who have made outstanding efforts to increase the awareness of disability rights issues in North Carolina, to work towards the removal of both physical and attitudinal barriers for people with disabilities, to create a more inclusive community, and to speak for and represent those who cannot represent themselves.
The award is given at the discretion of Disability Rights North Carolina and may or may not be awarded every year.
The deadline for nominations is September 12, 2014.This year, the Awards will be presented at a reception to be held on November 7, 2014 at the Durham Arts Council in downtown Durham, NC. Tickets will go on sale on August 1, 2014.
Nomination Criteria
- The nominee must be either a resident of North Carolina or a corporation or organization that conducts most of its business and activities in North Carolina.
- The nominee must demonstrate advocacy efforts that significantly improved conditions and opportunities for people with disabilities in North Carolina, increased awareness of disability issues in North Carolina, created a more inclusive community for people with disabilities, and/or effectively represented those who cannot represent themselves.
- The nominee must be a positive role model whose actions inspire others to advocate for people with disabilities in North Carolina.
- The contribution and/or activity must have been performed in North Carolina for a minimum of one calendar year.
Expectations of Recipients:
- Award recipients will be asked to attend the recognition event.
- Award recipients may be asked to participate in media interviews.
A nominee is not eligible if:
- The nomination form is incomplete.
- The nominee is currently a member of the Board of Directors or the PAIMI Advisory Council of Disability Rights North Carolina.
- The nominee is currently employed by or contracting with Disability Rights North Carolina.
- The nominee has received the award within the last four years.
Only complete nominations will be reviewed.The deadline for nominations is September 12, 2014.
