2014 Greeks in Major League Baseball

Playing this season were the following Greek alumni from NIC member fraternities:

Delta Upsilon—P Matt Daley, Yankees

Phi Beta Sigma—1B Ryan Howard, Phillies

Sigma Alpha Epsilon—C Jason Castro, Astros; P Mario Hollands, Phillies;

1B Clint Robinson, Dodgers

Sigma Chi—OF Josh Willingham, Twins-Royals

Serving as managers of big league clubs in 2014 are Joe Girardi (Alpha Tau Omega) of the Yankees; Joe Madden (Zeta Psi) of the Rays; and Lloyd McClendon (Kappa Alpha Psi) of the Mariners. At the close of the 2014 season, A.J. Hinch (Delta Tau Delta) was named manager of the Houston Oilers. The commissioner of baseball since 1998 is Bud Selig (Pi Lambda Phi), who retires at the end of this season.

Team general managers of big league clubs include Ben Cherington (Psi Upsilon) of the Red Sox; Jon Daniels (Delta Chi) of the Rangers; Jed Hoyer (Delta Kappa Epsilon) of the Cubs; Jeff Luhnow (Tau Epsilon Phi) of the Astros; A.J. Preller (Delta Chi) of the Padres; and Jack Zduriencik (Sigma Tau Gamma) of the Mariners. Coaches/instructors on major league clubs include Mike Aldrete (Delta Tau Delta) of the Cardinals; Jim Hickey (Phi Sigma Kappa) of the Rays; and Ray Searage (Theta Xi) of the Pirates.
