NOTE TO PARENT/GUARDIAN

I am very glad to have your daughter/son in my Ceramics I class this semester. I cannot stress enough the importance of good communication between student, teacher and parent. There are many steps to the process of creating a work from clay. Projects must go through a “drying” phase and will be fired in the kiln twice. Not all projects will fit into the kiln at one time so there is a “rolling” due date for totally completed work. There will be a greenware deadline which means that work will need to be completed to the greenware stage by that deadline or there will be a letter grade deduction for every 3 days past the deadline. Only exceptions will be made for students who have made arrangements with the instructor. Once projects start coming out of the kiln and I grade them, I must create a grade column for that project. Your son or daughter’s project may not be finished at that time so no grade may appear. Please do not panic. As long as you do not get a phone call or email from me and no zero appears your student is in good standing and I am just waiting for the project to go through all the stages. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me. There are times I offer Open Studio afterschool and/or on Saturdays. This is not every Saturday, but students will be notified when Open Studio is offered. I look forward to a successful semester with your son or daughter.

Thank you,

Stephanie Zeiler
