Stewards queried trainer/driver Christian Salter as to the performance of $2.40 unplaced favourite VANDE VELDE in tonight’s event,. Mr Salter explained that the gelding had been slowly away from the standing start and that in his view best suited when held up for a late sprint, the relatively slow early sectionals then meant that it was difficult to gain ground from back in the field when the leaders sprinted. After taking evidence from drivers Phil Mascall (ORIGIN BILLY), Dylan Ford (COOKED BOOKS), Taylor Ford (STAREESHAR), Todd Rattray (BRAVO CHARLIE) and Mark Yole (WASONIE SNAKE), stewards formed the view that COOKED BOOKS had shifted to a position one off the pegs when passing the 300 metres, as a result STAREESHAR was obliged to race slightly wider and WASONIE SNAKE then raced roughly whilst tiring, which inconvenienced BRAVO CHARLIE and ORIGIN BILLY.
