CFA Bahrain hosts 7th Annual Charter Award Ceremony

Manama, January 26, 2013 - The President and Board of CFA Society Bahrain hosted its seventh Annual Charterholder Ceremony. Mr. Khalil Nooruddin, President of CFA Society Bahrain, recognised 28 new charterholders in the presence of nearly 80 guests and society members at Bahrain Bourse premises in Bahrain Financial Harbour.

Over the last five years, CFA Society Bahrain has grown its number of new charterholders by 72%, making it one of the largest CFA societies in the Middle East region. There are now 130 CFA members and charterholders in Bahrain, comprising portfolio managers, analysts, chief investment officers, chief executive officers, investment advisers, pension plan investment officers and senior financial consultants.

Congratulating the new charterholders, Mr. Khalil Nooruddin, President of CFA Society Bahrain, said: “As we welcome the new charterholders into CFA Society Bahrain, we are proud of our continued growth as a centre for financial and investment excellence in the Kingdom. Our ongoing efforts and commitment is underpinned by our firm belief in the importance of investment professionals securing the very best international financial qualification.”

He added: “Despite challenging market conditions, it is very encouraging to see that financial professionals in Bahrain continue to dedicate themselves to the ethics, rigour, tenacity, and analytics at the core of the CFA Program.”

Looking at the year ahead Mr Nooruddin concluded: “The year ahead will be interesting for CFA Society Bahrain as financial markets in the GCC continue to grow and mature. Charterholders will hear from a range of global experts from a variety of professional and educational institutions, where issues and topics affecting both the global and regional markets will be reviewed and discussed. In addition to that, CFA Institute will be hosting its annual Middle East Investment Conference in Dubai in March, ahead of the next set of examinations in June.”

Mr. Richard Fernand, CFA Director, Industry relations, gave a presentation on the important role played by CFA charter holders and CFA institute in the global financial industry. He highlighted some of the key initiatives being taken by the CFA institute to increase the relevance, credence and awareness of the CFA charter in both the financial and non financial sectors.

This was followed a presentation from Mr. Michael McMillan, CFA, Director of Ethics and Professional Standards at CFA Institute. He stressed on the importance of ethics in financial services with real life examples and highlighted the important role played by CFA members and candidates in the use of CFA ethics and professional standards.
