Comments/Explanations

Stewards took no action against any trainer for the late notification of riders at tonight’s meeting due to the issues encountered at RISA with the computer system this week.

Apprentice T Buck pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 120(b) in that he accepted a ride on Helera tonight for which he was found to be overweight and was subsequently fined $150.

Following the running of Race 6, Jockey Brendon McCoull advised Stewards that he was feeling unwell and was examined by the on-course ambulance officers who reported that he was suffering from mild dehydration. Brendon McCoull was stood down from riding for the remainder of the meeting. Jockey McCoull was advised that he must submit a medical certificate prior to riding trackwork, trials or races.

RACE 1 – NEW YEARS EVE ROCK N ROLL RACE MEETING 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – 1200 METRES

On arrival on course it was reported that Lago Prince had sustained an abrasion to the hind quarters en route to the meeting and following a veterinary examination was passed fit to run.

Shortly after the start Fracassare was inconvenienced when tightened for room by Trelew which shifted out slightly.

Helera was slow to begin and then attempted to buck resulting in it shifting in abruptly and losing considerable ground. Trainer B Baker was notified that Helera has been suspended from racing until it completes a trial to the satisfaction of Stewards.

Near the 800 metres Stella Etoile got it head up and proved difficult to ride when hanging out. The filly then continued to hang out for some distance. Trainer Bill Ryan was advised that a warning has been placed against the racing manners of Stella Etiole.

Ben Knobel rider of Crabby Ness was found guilty of a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that passing the 600 metres he permitted his mount to shift ground outwards when insufficiently clear of Down To The Wire resulting in the rider of that filly having to restrain her mount to avoid the heels of Crabby Ness. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a low level. Ben Knobel’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 1 Tasmanian race meeting and after deferring the commencement of the penalty the suspension commences at midnight 30 November 2013 and expires at midnight 1 December 2013. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Ben Knobel’s good record and the low level of interference.

Mehmet Ulucinar rider of Holyian pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that approaching the 200 metres he permitted his mount to shift ground inwards making contact with Sir Halliday taking that gelding in onto Stella Etoile resulting in both horses becoming unbalanced. After considering the evidence provided Apprentice Ulucinar’s licence to ride in races was suspended for three (3) Tasmanian race meetings to commence at midnight 1December 2013 and expire at midnight 11 December 2013. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a high level. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration his guilty plea, his inexperience and that this was his first careless riding suspension.

When Stella Etoile became unbalanced after being contacted on the hind quarters it was turned outwards and took Sir Halliday out onto Holyian resulting Sir Halliday having to be checked and Holyian being taken out onto Down To The Wire which was unbalanced.

Down To The Wire then displayed a tendency to lay in over the last 100 metres.

RACE 2 – PANIC 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – 1400 METRES

High Hill was slow to begin (1L).

Master Alfred jumped away awkwardly.

Passing the 100 metres Unparalleled shifted in slightly resulting in Chimed In shifting out over that gelding’s heels in an attempt to gain clear running and in doing so brushed Helianthus.

Tyson Buck rider of Calma D’Oro which after racing handy commenced to tire from the 700 metres explained from that point of the race it failed to respond to his riding and was eased down in the home straight. A post-race veterinary examination of Calma D’Oro revealed the gelding to have pulled up sore in front. Trainer M Guthrie was advised that he must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Calma D’Oro racing again.

**** Stewards upgraded the track to GOOD (3) at 6.39 pm ****

RACE 3 – STROP CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

Ordain stood flat footed and was then slow into stride (4L)

Zabibo made contact with the side of the starting gate before being tightened between Novaover and Neconni Girl which jumped outwards.

Ordain made the turn near the 800 metres awkwardly and lost ground.

For a short distance approaching the 200 metres Lens Luck was unable to gain a clear run.

RACE 4 – FIELD FAMILY BENCHMARK 78 HANDICAP - 1400 METRES

Shortly after the start Neil’s Gold was restrained and lost ground (1L).

For the majority of the home straight Settler’s Joy layed in and proved difficult to ride.

Over the last 50 metres Unoaked shifted out abruptly in an attempt to gain a clear run.

Jason Lyon rider of Darchill which performed below expectations explained that he was instructed to ride the gelding aggressively but it then failed to respond to his riding from the 400 metres and over the last 100 metres he eased the gelding down.

RACE 5 – ST. ANDREWS CLASS 1 HANDICAP - 1100 METRES

Honey Four Us was declared a late scratching at 8.20 pm when the mare could not be loaded into the barrier stalls. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Honey Four Us to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 8.20 pm were to be paid less thirty five cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and twenty two cents in the dollar on the value of the place ticket. Trainer S Davis was advised that Honey Four Us must complete 2 consecutive satisfactory trials before the mare will be permitted to race again.

Geegees Hawkeye was slow to begin (2L).

A post-race veterinary inspection of King Of Devonshire revealed that this gelding had bled from both nostrils. Trainer Shirley Berger was advised of the provisions of AR 53A(4) in that King Of Devonshire may not be trained, exercised or galloped on any racecourse for a period of two (2) months and it may not start in any race for a period of three (3) months effective today, whereafter it is to satisfactorily trial over at least 1000 metres in the presence of a Steward. The trainer advised that it is her intention to retire the gelding.

A post-race veterinary examination of Geegees Hawkeye revealed no obvious abnormalities.

RACE 6 – FREE BEER CLASS 2 HANDICAP - 1200 METRES

Alarmist was slow to begin (1L).

Georgie Catania rider of Refuse To Lose pleaded guilty to a charge under AR 137(a) careless riding the particulars being that near the 1000 metres she permitted her mount to shift ground inwards when insufficiently clear of Zarimby resulting in that mare being taken in and making contact with Espry who in turn was taken in and made contact with the hind quarters of Volcanic Sky resulting in that mare becoming unbalanced. Stewards deemed the interference and carelessness to be of a medium level. Georgie Catania’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 2 Tasmanian race meetings and after a deferment of the start date the penalty will commence at midnight 4 December 2013 and expire at midnight 11 December 2013. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration Miss Catania’s guilty plea and her overall record in relation to this rule.

Freddie Two Shoes raced wide throughout.

Near the 700 metres Espry got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Zarimby. Hotham Street which was following was also hampered.

In the home straight Alarmist hung in when under pressure.

A post-race veterinary examination of Alarmist revealed the gelding had been galloped on on the outside of the off side hind leg.

RACE 7 – BRALLOS BENCHMARK 68 HANDICAP – 2100 METRES

Acting on a confirmed phone call from Trainer Tammy Mollross that Certain Shine was lame behind, Stewards withdrew the gelding at 9.30 am acting on veterinary advice. Tammy Mollross was advised that she must submit a veterinary certificate prior to Certain Shine racing again.

Prior to declaring correct weight Stewards viewed the official film.

Passing the winning post the first time Tree Bandit was checked when tightened onto the running rail by Status Seeker which shifted in abruptly away from Master Joseph.

Apprentice Chantal Willis rider of Status Seeker was reprimanded under AR 137(a) careless riding in that rounding the home turn she permitted her mount to shift ground outwards taking Tree Bandit out off its course.

RACE 8 – COMING SOON 150TH MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE DIV 1 (1) – 1600 METRES

Gee Gee Black Fury was slow to begin.

Between the 1100 and the 700 metres Mulholland raced greenly and got its head up.

Near the 1000 metres Delago Delight improved up onto and then clipped the heels of Flanker.

Near the 400 metres Gee Gee Black Fury became unbalanced after shifting in towards the rail.

In the home straight Gee Gee Black Fury had some difficulty obtaining a clear run.

On the latter part of the home turn Coin Toss was inconvenienced when Kentucky Tea improved to the inside of that gelding.

Approaching the 100 metres Sonetto was tightened for room between Elzevier which initially shifted in and Delago Delight which shifted out.

RACE 9 – PARTY ON THE LAWN MAIDEN/CLASS 1 PLATE DIV 2 (2) – 1600 METRES

Credit Trader and All I Got were slow to begin (1L).

Mister Baldock jumped away awkwardly and lost ground (1L).

Approaching the 1200 metres Known About Town was tightened in onto Smoke ‘N’ Whisky by Testa Gee Gee which shifted in slightly.

Near the 800 metres Lacey Azz got its head up when being restrained off the heels of Testa Gee Gee.

Georgie Catania rider of Knots And Crosses reported that her mount got its tongue over the bit.

Apprentice M Ulucinar rider of Credit Trader was severely reprimanded under AR 137(c) in that he made a celebratory gesture prior to the finish line.

Adjourned Inquiry – Tasmanian Turf Club Meeting 6 November 2013

RACE 3 – RECIPROCAL RIGHTS 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE - 1400 METRES

Stewards tonight concluded an inquiry into the reasons Our Mummy’s Boy was tightened for room by One At A Time (R Mangan) passing the 400 metres. After taking additional evidence Rhonda Mangan was issued with a severe reprimand under AR 137(a) careless riding and notified that she must ensure she is fully clear of other runners when shifting ground in future.

RACE 9 – CITY PROM BENCHMARK 62 HANDICAP – 2150 METRES

Stewards tonight concluded an inquiry into the riding tactics adopted by Apprentice R Mangan rider of Larmar Hall. During the course of the inquiry evidence was taken from Rhonda Mangan, Stable Foreman Marion Dalco, Dr Michael Morris (Club Veterinarian), Trainer Larry Dalco and David Brunton (Master of R Mangan). After evaluating all the evidence provided Rhonda Mangan pleaded guilty to a charge under the provisions of AR 135(b) the particulars being that after obtaining the lead passing the winning post on the first occasion she permitted her mount to race freely in front between the 1800 metres and the 1000 metres resulting in a quick lead time of 47.4 seconds with the horse tiring from the 600 metres and in the opinion of the Stewards her actions were unreasonable which resulted in her failing to give her mount full opportunity to win or to finish in the best possible position. Rhonda Mangan’s licence to ride in races was suspended for 4 Tasmanian race meetings to commence at midnight 1 December 2013 and to expire at midnight 18 December 2013. In arriving at penalty Stewards took into consideration her guilty plea, her relative inexperience and that she was initially attempting to ride within the instructions that were given.
