RACE 1 – NIMBLEFOOT 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1100 METRES

Acting on a confirmed telephone call from Jason Clifford, the Trainer of Extravagant Eagle who stated that the results of a blood count relating to the gelding were unsatisfactory, Stewards ordered its withdrawal at 7.40 am.

The race-book failed to show MikaylasRaider as wearing blinkers. A public announcement was made to this effect prior to the start of the race.

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected Canny Cross which had not started since November 2012 and passed the mare fit to take its place in the field.

The start was delayed approximately three minutes when Mikaylas Raider (C Willis (a)) dislodged its rider behind the barriers and galloped back towards the mounting yard before being recaptured. Soas not to cause additional delay, Mikaylas Raider was declared a late scratching by order of Stewards at 12.15 pm. Prior to the announcement of correct weight, Stewards ordered all monies invested on Mikaylas Raider to be refunded in full. All bets made prior to 12.15 pm were to be paid less six cents in the dollar on the face value of the win ticket and less seven cents in the dollar on the face value of the place ticket. Apprentice Willis was examined by the on-course ambulance officers and passed fit to fulfil her remaining riding engagements. Trainer Douglas Brazendale was advised that Mikaylas Raider must complete a satisfactory trial through the mounting yard before the colt will be permitted to race again.

The announcement of correct weight was delayed when Jockey David Pires the rider of Game Of Thrones (dead heat for second), asked to view the official photo of the finish. After viewing the image Jockey Pires was satisfied.

The announcement of correct weight was further delayed when Jockey Jason Maskiell, the rider of Canny Cross, asked to view the official films over the concluding stages. After viewing the films Jockey Maskiell was satisfied and correct weight was declared.

At the start Up Cups jumped out and brushed with Mon Chou Ala Crème.

Mon Chou Ala Crème had a tendency to lay out throughout.

Rounding the home turn, Consuletta and Blinkety Blink brushed.

Approaching the 200 metres, Canny Cross was disappointed for a clear run and was checked when Song Of Gold (K Moore) rolled out marginally. At the same time Blinkety Blink shifted ground inwards slightly. Jockey Kim Moore was advised that she must ensure she is fully clear of other runners when shifting ground in the future.

RACE 2 – MALUA 3YO & UPWARDS MAIDEN PLATE 3YO & UPWARDS – SET WEIGHTS – 1400 METRES

The Club’s veterinary surgeon inspected Sparkle Sparkle which had not started since December 2011 and passed the mare fit to take its place in the field.

An inquiry was adjourned into the reasons for Jockey Stephen Maskiell being dislodged from Ritzy Bar near the 1000 metres as Jockey Maskiell was transported to hospital for further treatment.

Let It Be Known had a tendency to lay in over the final stages.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Sparkle Sparkle failed to reveal any abnormalities.

A post-race veterinary inspection of Ritzy Bar revealed grass stains on its right-fore coronet and mild buckling on its right knee but the filly was not lame at the trot.

RACE 3 – D J NISSAN MAIDEN / CLASS 1 PLATE – SET WEIGHTS – 1600 METRES

This race was delayed approximately five minutes whilst waiting for the replacement ambulance to arrive on course.

Brinktop was slow into stride (2L).

Flanker and Maleesh both over-raced in the early stages.

Trevor over-raced rounding the turn at the 1200 metres and had to be restrained off heels. Trevor then shifted out to obtain clear running and as a result Grey Hype had to be steadied off that gelding’s heels.

Approaching the 1000 metres Trevor got its head up in the air and shifted out before continuing to over-race for some distance.

Relentless Pursuit failed to muster early speed.

Strait Shot was trapped wide in the early and middle stages without cover.

Rounding the home turn, Little River Girl rolled out marginally towards Devil’s Tears.

When questioned on the disappointing performance of Strait Shot, Apprentice Georgie Catania explained that it was the connections’ intention to race forward, however, she was obliged to race wide and was unable to restrain and look for cover. Apprentice Catania added that in her view this was the primary reason for the horse failing to finish the race off. A post-race veterinary of Strait Shot revealed the horse to have an irregular heart beat. Trainer Gary White was advised that Strait Shot must complete a 1000 metre gallop followed by a satisfactory ECG as well as passing a barrier trial to Stewards’ satisfaction before racing again.

Apprentice Chantal Willis reported on return to scale that she accidentally dropped her whip whilst rounding the home turn.

Chantal Willis, the rider of Little River Girl, was reminded of her obligations to check the semaphore board in future before returning to the mounting yard as she failed to return to the dismounting stalls after finishing in fifth place today.

Race 10 – St Virgil’s College Benchmark 68 Handicap – 2100Metres
