2011 Don Hansen All-Super Region One Team

Neugebauer, Hume, Wilmer, Maynor Earn Top Regional Honors

BROOKFIELD, Ill. — The Don Hansen Football Committee has released the 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-Super Region One squad today (Jan. 9).

West Virginia Wesleyan quarterback Adam Neugebauer, a 2011 Harlon Hill Trophy finalist, was named the Super Region One Offensive Player of the Year, while Cheyney defensive lineman Tim Hume was selected the Defensive Player of the Year. Fairmont State return specialist Matt Wilmer garnered Special Teams Player of the Year honors, while Winston-Salem State head coach Connell Maynor was named the Super Region One Coach of the Year.

Neugebauer, a senior from Pittsburgh, Pa., led Division II in passing, completing 353 of 521 passes (.678) for 4,111 yards and 40 touchdowns in 11 games (373.7 ypg). Hume, a senior from Harrisburg, Pa., made 21.5 tackles-for-loss and 6.5 quarterback sacks among 72 total tackles on the season. Wilmer, a junior from Keyser, W.Va., led Division II with a 23.0-yard average on punt returns.

Maynor guided Winston-Salem State to a 13-1 record and an appearance in the Division II semifinals. The Rams enjoyed an unblemished regular season while claiming the CIAA Championship. WSSU, which finished the season ranked No. 3 in the final AFCA poll, dropped a hard-fought 21-14 decision to eventual national runner-up Wayne (Mich.) State in the national semifinals.

The Don Hansen team carries out the legacy of long-time small college football advocate Don Hansen, who passed away at age 75 on Aug. 29, 2010. Hansen, from Brookfield, Ill., started and published Don Hansen’s National Weekly Football Gazette for three decades, selecting NCAA Division II All-America teams for the first time in 1988. Don Hansen’s Football Gazette began selecting Division II All-Region squads in 2003.

The first-team and second-team All-Region selections advance to a national ballot from which the 2011 Don Hansen NCAA Division II All-America team will be named later this month.

A total of 118 players from 37 schools earned some form of Don Hansen All-Super Region One honors.
