The Allen Award is anaward given for the best “Plein Air” painting as chosen by the donors, David and Leslie Allen. This award will only be given if there is a minimum of ten (10) plein air pieces accepted into the show. Paintings that are eligible for this award must have been painted directly, from life outdoors, or “in the open air”. If you want your work to be considered for this award, you must be sure to put PA after media in the description of your piece when you are in “Manage Images” part of the CaFÉ entry process.

The Castillo Award of Excellence: $150

The Castillo Award is a prize for a work displaying mastery of craftsmanship and an authentic voice.

Michael Harding Art Materials: $250 gift certificate

JUDGEOFAWARDS

Carol Swinney- ( is well known for her palette knife paintings with abundant texture, rich color and dramatic light. She has received over 30 awards in the past 10 years and been featured in Southwest Art, Western Art Collector, Wildlife Art News, International Artist, Plein Air Magazine and American Artist Magazine. Carol has had numerous one woman shows and museum exhibitions including the National Museum of Wildlife Art, the Gilcrease Museum, the Briscoe Museum of Western Art, the CM Russell Museum, the Desert Caballeros Western Museum, the Old West Museum, the Booth Western Art Museum and the Clymer Museum. She is in the permanent collection of The Amerind Museum & Grand Teton Nat'l Park. Carol travels extensively and is a resident of Tucson and Casper, Wyoming.

VENUE

The Women Artists of the West 45th Annual Exhibit will be at the Tucson Desert Art Museum ( 200 paintings and sculptures will be chosen for this year’s annual show (excludes photography, fiber art & digital art.)Smaller entries are particularly encouraged in consideration of space and to provide a range of price points. Tucson has a high number of winter residents with second homes and southwest/western themes are generally in greater demand.

ENTRYREQUIREMENTS

Please read carefully. There will be no exceptions to deadlines, specs or rules.

Eligibility

Open to all WAOW Members working in all mediums (excluding photography, digital art, and fiber art).

Exhibition

Open to original work completed within the past two years (2013 – 2015) that has NOT been exhibited in previous WAOW juried shows*.
Three dimensional works must be no more than three years old (2012– 2015) and exhibited no more than twice in any WAOW juried exhibition.

*Work exhibited in non-juried online shows is acceptable

Paintings submitted may not exceed 20” in either dimension (does not include frame dimension).No size limitations on 3D works.

Artwork must be available for sale.
Work created with guidance of instructor is not eligible.

Accepted artists are required to pay $20 to offset costs of printing promotional materials and catalog; due within 10 days of notification of acceptance.

Work must be professionally framed and ready to hang. No saw-tooth hangers. Neither WAOW nor the Museum is responsible for breakage or replacement if work is framed under glass.It is suggested that artists who ship glass should always cover it with a product called “glas skin” which is available from the Airfloat box company. It holds the glass together in case of breakage in transit, is easily peeled off, and often is easy to re-use if people are careful with it.

Submissions not meeting these requirements will not be accepted. No refund of entry fee.

Entry Information

All submissions are to be made online. You must enter the Pass Code: waowtucson to access the application.

See “CaFE Instructions” included at end of prospectus.Please be aware that even though you may submit up to five (5) pieces for consideration, a maximum of two (2) pieces will be selected for inclusion in this show.

WAOW uses a blind jury process for reviewing national exhibition submissions.Artist signature must be covered before submitting,artwork with visible signatures will not be juried; no exceptions.

Entry fee:

Non-refundable $50 paid on Café site for one and up to three submissions, $55 for four submissions or $60 for five submissions.Sculptors may only submit one view per piece.

Digital images are assumed to be accurate representations of the entrant’s original artworks. Artwork that differs markedly from the submitted image will be disqualified.

Promotional Materials Fee:

Accepted artists are expected to pay a $20 fee to assist in defraying the costfor invitations and promotional materials relating to the show.This fee is payable within ten days of notification of acceptance.

Sales

2D work: 20% Tucson Desert Art Museum, 20% WAOW, 60% Artist.Including Quick Draw pieces.

3D work: 33% to be divided between Tucson Desert Art Museum and WAOW, 67% Artist.

Tucson Desert Art Museumwill pay artist within 30 days of close of show.

Pricing of Work:Prices should be on par with your current retail prices as shown in your galleries. Price specified on the entry will be the price listed throughout the show; no late changes.

Liability

All entries will be made at the risk of the entrant.

Tucson Desert Art Museumwill provide Insurance on all works in the show while they are on the gallery premises up to 60% of value (price minus artist commission). Artists are responsible for shipping insurance.

Accepted artists will be responsible for shipping and insurance both ways

All shipped work should include:

  1. Prepaid shipping label. Art shipped without a prepaid return label will not be displayed until a return label is provided. Failure to provide a prepaid return label will result in a $25 handling fee in addition to the bill for return shipping. Paintings should be shipped via Fed Ex and UPS only. Work shipped through the US Post Office will not be accepted.
  1. Two copies of the artist’s biography/artist statement.
  1. Identification tags attached to back of each accepted work (format below).

All shipped work must arrive no later than Oct 24th. Hand delivered work to arrive no later than Sunday, Oct 31st. Hand delivered work to arriveat Tucson Desert Art Museum uncrated. Any work not received by these dates will not be included in the show.

Package your paintings well. We will reuse your original packing for the return.

We recommend the use of a Masterpak Strongbox or an AirFloat Systems box when shipping your work. Contact Airfloat Systems (800-445-2580) or Masterpak (800-922-5522) to ask about any possible discount they may offer.

Absolutely NO peanuts. Put your name and address on the outside and inside of each box. A photo of the painting to be re-packed in this box on the inside of the box is helpful for packers. Mark the outside of your box with "TOP" or "OPEN HERE"

ONLINECATALOG

There will be an online catalog on the WAOW website, November 3-28th, 2015. A printed catalog will be available for all exhibiting artists and for limited distribution.

INSTRUCTIONS

How to Apply to Calls for Entry at CaFÉTM

1. Go to the internet url CaFE –

2. You will need to make a User Name and password to register for CaFE

3. At this point you go to Manage Images and upload your reformattedimages. Please remember to cover or edit out the signature on your artwork

prior to uploading images.

4. Then, see Apply to Calls and click

5. Enter the pass code: waowtucson to access the application.

6. Submit application. Please note: You may submit only one (1) piece, however the minimum entry fee is still $50 for 1-3 pieces, $55 for 4 pieces, and $60 for 5 pieces.CAFÉ may require more images than the number of submissions you wish to submit. In that instance a blank image can be found on the members’ page of the WAOW website for your use.

Please note: Your images will NOT be available to jury until we receive your check, so if you are paying by check, don’t leave your entry until the last week. If you do plan on entering at the last minute, please pay with a credit card. The Jury starts one day after the deadline.

Artists receive email notifications from callforentry.orgwhen they have been accepted or declined. Please check your spam filter.

Artists can view their application status at any time on the My CaFÉ Entries page and can choose to accept or decline invitations.

Legal Agreement

This agreement between you (Artist), and Women Artists of the West (WAOW, Inc), sets out certain rules for this show:

All Jurying fees, shipping fees, promotional materials fee (only accepted artists) and scanning & posting fees are nonrefundable, whether or not work is accepted and/or presented for exhibition. Fees and 2015 dues must be received prior to jurying, or application will not be deemed complete.

Artist is solely responsible for completing application through the CaFÉ system by

August 17rd. NOTE: If the artist gets through the entire CaFÉ process and does not get a screen with a confirmation number, the artist has not completed the process and has not completed application to the show. Only completed applications with fees will be considered.Submission is through CaFÉ only.

Artist may submit up to five images of original work. Paintings must have been created during the last two years (2013-2015) and sculpture during the last three years (2012-2015).

Please note: Artist signature must be covered before submitting to CaFÉ. Submissions with visible signatures will not be accepted. No exceptions.

Painting image dimensionsmay not exceed 20” in either length or width. This measurement does not include the frame.

No size limitations on 3D submissions.

Artist, by submitting to this show, agrees to WAOW's use of their images for publicity reasons.
