Annual Sports Day

The sun shone brightly for our very successful Sport Day events. The children enjoyed a wide range of fun activities. The Stevenson House cup was accepted by House Captain of the winning house, Ryan McBride. The results were as follows:

2010 Bank of Scotland Junior Great Scottish Run

The Junior Great Scottish Run is one of the country’s leading youth sports events providing an opportunity for children of all abilities to be part of Scotland’s largest mass participation sporting event. This event is planned to take place on Saturday 4th September at Glasgow Green.

Pupil Attendance at School

Last session, our school attendance was 96.90%. We achieved the 3rdhighest attendance of all primary schools in Glasgow. I cannot emphasise enough the importance of regular attendance at school as very good school attenders achieve their full learning potential! The latest whole school attendance figure is 96.88% and the breakdown for each stage is as follows:

PUPIL ACHIEVEMENTS: SPORTS

Glasgow Schools Athletics Championships

Our P6/P7 children performed very successfully last week at ScotstounLeisure Centre. The results were as follows:

P6 Boys’ relay team won 1st Place; P6 Girls’ relay team won 3rdPlace.

P7 Boys’ relay team won 1st Place; P7 Girls’ relay team won 2ndPlace.

P7 Boys’ sprint-Mark Lamont P7B1 won 1st place.

P6 Boys’ sprint-Cameron Morrin P6H won 1stplace.

P6 Girls’ sprint-Amy Macdonald P6C won 2nd place.

P6 Boys’ 600m-Jamie Thomson P6C won 3rdplace.

P7 Girls’ 600m-Claire Wallace won 1st place.

P7 Boys’ Long Jump-Cameron Foy P7BC won 1st place; P6 Boys’ Long Jump-Samuel Kerr won 1st place.

The Boys team won 1stplace overall.

All of these successful athletes are through to the Finals on Wednesday 26thMay in Scotstoun Leisure Centre.

RESPONSIBLE CITIZENS

Walk to School Week

Last week we encouraged all our children to be active, healthy and responsible citizens and walk or cycle to school.

British Heart Foundation Appeal

Carole Nicol from the BHF visited our assemblies to collect a cheque for £1829.00 raised during our Healthy Lifestyles Festival towards the purchase of defibrillators in public areas of Glasgow.

Fin-tastic FishFriday 11th June-Our Enterprising P6H pupils have planned an exciting ‘Fin-tastic Fish Friday’ of fun activities to raise money for the ‘Clyde in the Classroom’ project.

G.A.P. Gala Day

Congratulations to Eloise Rae P6C who was selected by her classmates to be Gala Queen Attendanton Saturday 22nd May. I am certain that Eloisewas an excellent ambassador from Garrowhill during this event.

SUCCESSFUL LEARNERS

Mathematics Challenge

Congratulations to Hamza Ahmad in P7B1 who achieved a GOLD award and Filip Petrov P6H who achieved a SILVER Award.

Choices for Life

All our P7 pupils attended the annual ‘Choices for Life’ event that promotes a healthy lifestyle and raises important messages relating to drugs.

CONFIDENT INDIVIDUALS

P6 Dalguise Outdoor Education Centre

Our 46 P6 pupils had an excellent experience over a sunny May weekend. The children were offered exciting opportunities to stretch themselves and achieve more than they expected as they participated in the Giant Swing, Forest Trail, Jacob’s ladder and the Trapeze. Many thanks go to Mrs Smith, Mrs Young, Miss Hendry and Mrs McMath for accompanying the group.
