ACONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND HONOR CAPTAIN GEORGE R. HULL, UNITED STATES NAVY, UPON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT, AND TO COMMEND HIM FOR HIS YEARS OF FAITHFUL SERVICE IN THE UNITED STATES ARMED FORCES.

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are pleased to learn that Captain George R. Hull will begin a welldeserved retirement from active service in the United States Navy; and

Whereas, born in Washington, Pennsylvania, on February 19, 1951, George Hull graduated with a bachelor of science in biology from the University of Pittsburg in 1973, where he lettered in varsity soccer; and

Whereas, upon graduation, he was commissioned as an ensign in the United States Navy under the Health Professions Scholarship Program and earned a doctorate of dental medicine from the University of Pittsburg School of Dental Medicine in 1977; and

Whereas, he began his activeduty service in 1977 at the Naval Regional Dental Center in Norfolk, Virginia, and then he served two years aboard the USS Inchon before returning to Norfolk; and

Whereas, among his many duty stations, he has served in Bethesda, Maryland; Pearl Harbor, Hawaii; and Pensacola, Florida, as well as aboard the USS John F. Kennedy during the First Gulf War, and he has been stationed in Wales and Bermuda; and

Whereas, in three separate tours of duty at Parris Island, he served a total of ten years, first as the director of the Branch Dental Clinic, then as the commanding officer of the Naval Dental Clinic, and finally as the assistant dental officer for the Branch Health Clinic at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot; and

Whereas, his numerous citations for superior service include the prestigious Legion of Merit, three awards of the coveted Meritorious Service Medal, and two awards of the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal; and

Whereas, he and his beloved wife, the former Arlene Heape of Beaufort, have five wonderful children, Heather, Matthew, Kathryn, Lucas, and Geoffrey; and

Whereas, the members of the South Carolina General Assembly are grateful for the outstanding military service that Captain George R. Hull has provided to the men and women of the United States Armed Forces for almost four decades and are pleased that he can now enjoy a muchdeserved retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the members of the South Carolina General Assembly, by this resolution, recognize and honor Captain George R. Hull, United States Navy, upon the occasion of his retirement, and commend him for his years of faithful service in the United States Armed Forces.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be provided to Captain George R. Hull.
