Orientation

Important Informations

A. Things to bring to the conference

IMPORTANT: Window fans for residence halls without A/C can get very HOT at night.

? NOTE: only Cary, Earhart and Hillenbrand have AC.

? Umbrellas in case of rain/storms

? Sweater or jacket for Elliott Hall

? Photo ID for check-in

? Health insurance cards.

Purdue strongly advises that every person have that with them at all times.

B. Things to bring (cont’d)

? For easier transportation, you may consider bringing a:

? Bicycle

? Roller blades

? Skateboard

C. NOTE: Purdue is a large campus.

? Bring comfortable shoes.

? Residence halls are a long walk from Elliott Hall.

? Please be prepared to walk 10 -15 minutes between any destinations.

D. Signs

When you arrive at Purdue:

? There will be signs marking parking areas and check-in locations.

? UBF Staff and workers will be on hand wearing

Orange “ASK ME: I’m a Living Sign” t-shirts to guide all guests to their designated halls.

?? Questions/Concerns ??

? The local police will be around campus.

If you have any questions, please use them as your guides.

? Maps will be up for locations.

? Staff will be on hand to direct guests

E. Check – in

? Check-in will occur in your residence hall and NOT at a centralized location.

There are 9 residence halls.

Check-in at your assigned residence hall.

? There will be 2 staff teams: UBF and Purdue.

? You will check-in with UBF staff to receive your name badge.

? Then you will check-in with Purdue staff to receive your room key.

? You must show your name badge to check in with Purdue staff.

Purdue will not check you in if you have not checked in with UBF first.

? Each adult must check-in by name and chapter to avoid confusion.

UBF Check-in

? During check-in, you will receive 2 very important items:

? Name badge – for meal ticket and Bible study groups (from UBF staff)

? Room key – for your actual room (from Purdue staff)

ALWAYS LOCK YOUR ROOMS WHEN YOU LEAVE!!!

? Keep key in a secure location. Do not lose these items!

? There will be a $25 fee for a lost or unreturned key.

? If you lose your name badge, you lose your meal ticket.

UBF Late Check-in

? If you come between 7:00 – 9:00 p.m. during the meeting time,

come to the meeting in Elliott first before checking in.

? Check-in office will be shut-down during meeting times.

? Late check-in will be in the Armory after the first meeting on Thursday.

? You will get your name badge in the Armory and then go to your residence hall

to receive your room key.

HBF/MBF Check-in

? Check – in will be done through chaperones.

? Each HBF/MBF member will be assigned a chaperone.

Chaperones will be in charge of a group of 10 youth each.

? If any MBF/HBF come early and on their own, they must wait until their chaperone arrives.

? MBF/HBF centralized meeting place will be in the Wiley lobby.

MBF/HBF Late Check-in

? For any late MBF/HBF, come to Elliott Hall first.

All MBF/HBF will join the UBF Opening Ceremony Thursday night.

? There will be a designated MBF and HBF sitting area.

Ushers can assist children in Elliott Hall.

? Once children come to Elliott, they can meet with their chaperone and

check-in with them after the meeting.

G. Dining Courts

There are 4 dining courts for our International and National delegates:

? Earhart – all international delegates will eat here.

? Windsor – North American delegates will eat here.

? Ford – North American delegates will eat here.

? Meredith – HBF/MBF will eat here.

? Dining courts are like actual food courts – there will be many options to choose from.

? Food will be pre-prepared

? ALL YOU CAN EAT!!

H. Food Service

? We have a VERY STRICT policy on food service.

? Your meal shift and dining location will be indicated on your name badge.

? IMPORTANT: You must remember to bring your name badge with you to every meal

in order to enter the food courts.

? A person must eat at his/her assigned food court & shift for all meals—

you cannot switch during the conference--food has been ordered for each place

based on the assignments already made.

? If you show up at a different location and/or at a different shift –

you will NOT BE ADMITTED.

? For food service there will be 2 shifts:

? The first shift is the first 45 minutes

? The second shift is the second 45 minutes

? Once you’re inside, you cannot go back out.

If you try to come back in, you will be charged 2x.

? UBF STAFF will be assisting people to enter the food court and

ensure things are moving smoothly.

? REMEMBER: Eat quickly and move quickly.

No excessive chatting in dining area. Purdue has a beautiful campus – please talk outside.

Thursday night for 30 minutes at the conference for orientation and prayer only.

O. Other Important Information

Warning Sirens

It is Purdue policy that if you hear:

? Outdoor warning sirens = go into the nearest building immediately.

Do not leave until told to do so.

? Indoor warning sirens = go outside immediately and

move far from that building.

Safety Issues

? Normal campus protocol

? For immediate help, use emergency call booths = push the button

which goes to the dispatch right away.

? 24 hour escort service – it is a “safe walk program” to get from point A to point B

if at night you feel unsafe at any time.

? For a TRUE emergency, dial 9-1-1.

Fire Alarms

? All buildings are smoke free rooms.

? Do not pull fire alarms!

? If you try to disconnect the smoke detectors, the fire department will be notified of

the room

Medical Needs

? Please bring your own medication.

? Everyday, there will be 1 doctor on call.

*Their pager number will be in the office.

? Doctors will treat any urgent care and will accompany any patients to the campus

hospital.

Medical Issues w/HBF

? Youth under 18 years old whose parents are not attending the conference,

MUST have a waiver signed by the parent in case of medical issues.

? The waiver forms are on the UBF website and are available for downloading.

? MBF should turn in their forms to Yvette Shin.

? HBF should turn in their forms to Sam Toh.

? Waivers must be turned in before arriving at the conference.

? In an emergency, a UBF doctor will accompany youth to the local hospital.

? Youth not accompanied by parents need to have a copy of their insurance cards

with their waiver forms on hand.

? Parents who are at the conference need to have a copy of their child’s insurance card

with them.

? West Lafayette is in the Eastern Time Zone.

? Lost & Found:

? for PMU & Stew it is located in the Union Club Hotel.

? other campus areas – in each building.

? General UBF Lost & Found - UBF office in Armory

? Local bookstores/eating places –

One is located on corner of State St (SR 26) & Grant Street,

some are in the Purdue West Shopping center (West end of campus),

and others in Village Shopping area - Southeast of PMU along State Street

Remember: Third street

? Elliott hall and the Armory are on the corner of Third street and University street.

? Most residence halls and dining rooms are off of third street.

? Cary, Owen and Ford are off of University street.

Elliott Hall of Music

? No food or drinks in Elliott Hall.

? Elliott Hall will be air conditioned. Bring a sweater or a jacket.

? Hall will be open for general entrance 30 minutes before meeting times and

closed right after each meeting.

? All rehearsals need to be scheduled in advance. Performers can enter earlier.

? Turn off all cell phones before entering Elliott.
