BOWLING HANDBOOK

I. Season Defined

A. WHAC bowling teams will follow NAIA Guidelines in regard to:

1. Length of season

2. Weeks of contact: 24

3. Number of contests: 16

II. Schedule

A. Each WHAC jamboreewill include all WHAC schools.

B. Schools sponsoring bowling: Aquinas, Concordia, Cornerstone, Indiana Tech, Lawrence Tech, Madonna, Northwestern Ohio, Rochester, Spring Arbor, and Siena Heights.

C. WHAC Jamborees for 2017-18 will be:

i. Oct. 7 Siena Heights

ii. Nov. 11 Spring Arbor

iii. Dec. 2 Cornerstone

iv. Feb. 3 Indiana Tech

III. Championships Defined

  1. The regular-season Conference Champion is the WHAC Conference Champion. The host of the post-season tournament will be the school with the highest point total from combining the men’s and women’s regular season standings. Entry fees are due the day of the event. If not provided, a fine of $50 per week late fee will be added.
  2. Conference Champion will be decided by the team with the most points. Points will be awarded by the place their team finishes in each jamboree, 1st-15 pts, 2nd -12 pts, 3rd-10 pts, 4th-8 pts, 5th-6 pts, 6th-5 pts, 7th-4pts, 8th-3pts, 9th- 2 pts, and 10th- 1 pt.
  3. Ties at the end of the season will be broken by total pins in all jamboreesat the conclusion of the fourth jamboree.
  4. When conference championships structures are established, they are in place for at least two years (unless a change in the number or participating teams in that sport takes place).

IV. Contest Procedures

  1. Bowling to be played under USBC rules.
  2. Host team must provide, at minimum, a 24 lane center that can provide a European Tenpin Bowling Federation(ETBF) library of oil patterns.
  3. Each school must provide a roster of up to 8 players in a timely manner before the start of the matches to David Jones.
  4. All teams must have proper uniform and dress consistent with USBC handbook.
  5. A team may substitute a maximum three (3) players per game but only one (1) in the tenth frame. Once a player is taken out of a game, he or she may not return in the same game.
  6. Each match will consist of 4 Regular Team Games and 4 sets or 4 Baker Games after bowling 4 games on a pair (2 games on one lane and then switch to the other lane for 2 games) for 3 sets. Lane assignments will be determined by the Tournament Director.
  7. Matches will start at 8:15 AM with 15 minutes of practice and bowl 4 Team Games from 8:30 AM-12:30PM. 16 Baker Games will follow at 12:45-4:30 PM. If these times have to change, host director should notify all schools 2 days in advance.
  8. The season will consist of 4 Jamboree style tournaments (see Article II Section C.) with the Tournament Championship to be held onMar. 3, 2018.
  9. The Tournament Championship will include all teams in the WHAC. The post-season tournament will be hosted by the conference champion on March 3, 2018. The tournament format will consist of 12 Baker games bowled by each team. The top four teams will then proceed to head to head match play consisting of 4 Baker games. The final two teams will then bowl an additional 4 Baker games with the WHAC Tournament Champion declared by the most total pins knocked down in the final match.

V. Awards

  1. All WHAC Postseason Awards are to be submitted via an online nomination process as described in Appendix A.
  2. The All-Conference Team will be selected as follows:
  3. Must have participated in 75% of WHAC games to be eligible.
  4. First Team is top 5 scores based on highest four jamboree averages.
  5. Honorable Mention is #6-#10 based on highest four jamboree averages.
  6. WHAC Player of the Year based on highest average in jamborees.
  7. WHAC Newcomer of the Year based on highest average in jamborees.
  8. Must be new to conference in the sport.
  9. Champions of Character Team/Coach of Character
  10. Each coach nominates one player from their roster who best exemplifies the NAIA Champions of Character initiative to be a member of the team.
  11. Coach of Character award to be voted on online from a pool of all head coaches.
  12. All-Academic Team
  13. Junior or above in academic standing.
  14. Cumulative GPA 3.25 or higher on a 4.0 scale.
  15. Must be attendance one-full year at nominating school.
  16. Trophy Breakdown
  17. Conference Champions and Tournament Champions receive championship trophies. (2 total)
  18. First Team All-Conference receives plaque (5 total)
  19. Player of the Year receives plaque (1 total)
  20. Newcomer of the Year receives plaque (1 total)
  21. Coach of the Year receives plaque (1 total)
  22. Champions of Character Coach receives plaque (1 total)
  23. Second Team All-Conference, All-Academic, Champions of Character receive certificates.

VI. Forfeiture

A. WHAC contests may be forfeited if:

1. A WHAC member institution fails to attend a contracted game or does not have enough players to field a team.

2. A WHAC team uses an ineligible player(s) per NAIA guidelines.

VII. Statistician

  1. Dave Jones will be the official statistician and will certify the tournaments with the USBC.

Nomination Process

  1. Visit
