Meeting Type: General Committee Meeting (Open to the Public)

Meeting called to order at 3:37 pm by Laké Laosebikan-Buggs, Homecoming Chair and Director of the Office of Student Union/Activities

I. Welcome and Introductions

The homecoming committee meeting was called to order by Mrs. Buggs. Our two secretaries are missing, would someone please take the minutes? Ashley Johnson graciously volunteered. The first order of business was the discussion of the proposed budget allocations for each event. These are not the final budgets, but only what is proposed as of this date.

II.Event Committee Information

Comedy Show– Shelley Dickson (Absent, written report)

The committee received a price ranges for the top 5 comedians that are desired as headliners for the show. A proposal has been submitted to SGA to co-sponsor the show, increasing the budget and possibly booking Kat Williams at $75,000. Students prices will be $10 for the first 3000 tixs, and $30 for general public if this event is approved.

Old School Jam– Kianta Key (Absent, written report)
An e-mail from the event Chair was read to the committee and requested a vote on the top 8 artists (costs included):

1. Earth, Wind, and Fire = 250,000
2. The Temptations = 150,000
3. Patti Labelle = 300,000
4. Maze featuring Frankie Beverly = 80,000
5. Gladys Knight = 250,000
6. Maxwell/Jill Scott = ?/75,000
7. Con Funk Shon = 100,000
8. The Manhattans = 90,000

The committee was surprised by the costs for these performers and wondered if the same proposal being made for the Comedy Show can be addressed for this show as well. Co-sponsors include the Alumni Affairs office and the FAMU Boosters. The venue is TBA; (we are looking into use of Gaither Gym) and looking for possible outside venue for Saturday evening.

Health Fair - Priscilla Wilson
The Health fair Committee would like their event to be moved to the FAMU track to include rock climbing, hip-hop aerobics, etc. They will have the juice bar from the fitness center. A Petting Zoo to include micro-organisms of diseases will also be added.

Dorm Step Show - Andrew Collins
The committee is searching for entertainment to perform in between acts. Their next meeting will be Wednesday @ 2pm in the Senate Chambers. The committee’s Email: Question posed by a committee member DJ KD: Non NPHC groups always are overlooked in Homecoming, is there a way they can be included in the NPHC Step Show. No, but possibly in the Dorm Step Show. The committee is open to non-NPHC Greeks performing. Will also contact Ladies of Unity and Walker-Ford step teams.

Fashion Show - Brandon MacCaskill (Absent)/Ashley Johnson reporting

They need a separate audition for faculty who would like to participate in the show.

Kick Off Bash– Kishia Ward
The committee is meeting on Friday (this is a holiday weekend, will anyone be in attendance?) and will meet again on Wednesday at 3:30pm in the Rattlers Den. They are also considering non-NPHC Greeks to perform.

Greek Step Show – Alex Harris (Absent)/ Amanda Bryd

Still working on finalized date for the show with Concerts committee. The day for the step show will be Friday, November 2, 2007 according to Co-Chair James Bland, as the Concert would be most profitable on Saturday evening. The step show is possibly fully sponsored.

Parade - Cpt. Langley
There will be a possible change of the route so that the parade will end on campus. The FAMULawSchool would like to create a float and be in the parade. Will work with Ms. AROTC in planning of parade. The chair can be reached at (850) 599-3515.

Gospel Choir– Dr. Stallworth
Proposed budget does not include funds for a guest artist. The highlight of the event will be the 50 year anniversary of choir. Chair has advised that the committee should solicit bids for professional recording of the show. Dr. Stallworth participated in the very first performance of the gospel choir 50 years ago!

SGA Concert – Tyler Cheatam
The committee is polling the students for an artist. So far the #1 pick is T-Pain.
The question of how can we attract more students was posed. It was suggested to possibly increase the number of student tickets sold. Also, change the line-up to attract a more diverse crowd.
*ALL CHAIRS need to get budget in! Tshirts and DJ DO NOThave to be included if you are using the DJ selected for the week of events. If you use a DJ outside of the one selected for the week, IT WILL COME FROM YOUR ALLOCATED BUDGET!!! Preliminary Budgetsare due JUNE 1, 2007.
