Whereas, in addition to being active within the troop, demonstrating the principles of the Scout Oath and Law daily, and earning at least twentyone merit badges, it is also necessary to serve in a leadership capacity, work on service projects, and write an essay detailing ambitions and life goals; and

Whereas, for his service project, William Atkinson III painted and applied a slip resistant surface to the handicap ramp at the Christ Prayer Chapel at Macedonia United Methodist Church in Mullins; and

Whereas, an extraordinarily wellrounded individual, William attends Macedonia United Methodist Church, where he is a member of the Macedonia Methodist Youth Fellowship. He also attends Pee Dee Academy, where he is a senior on the Varsity Football Team, Varsity Basketball Team, and the Varsity Baseball Team, as well as a member of the Honor Society and Student Council; and

Whereas, William has demonstrated his great leadership ability by attending Palmetto Boys State, participating as a Presbyterian Junior Fellow, and being a recipient of the Newberry College Leader Scholarship; and

Whereas, William’s long and arduous path to Eagle Scout will be rewarded at the Eagle Scout Ceremony on Sunday, April 1, 2007; and

Whereas, the House of Representatives is proud to congratulate young South Carolinians like William DuPree Atkinson III, who selflessly give of their time, talents, and energy to better their local communities, the State, and ultimately our nation. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives:

That the members of the House of Representatives of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and congratulate William DuPree Atkinson III, of Mullins, for obtaining the elite rank of Eagle Scout with the Boy Scouts of America, and to extend best wishes to him in all his future endeavors.
