A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO RECOGNIZE AND COMMEND THE PICKENS HIGH SCHOOL “LADY FLAME” VOLLEYBALL TEAM ON ITS IMPRESSIVE WIN OF THE 2006 CLASS AAA STATE VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE AND TO HONOR THE PLAYERS AND COACH JENNIFER GRAVELY ON AN OUTSTANDING SEASON.

Whereas, well acquainted with the taste of victory, the Pickens High School “Lady Flame” volleyball team crowned its superlative 293 season by capturing the 2006 Class AAA State Volleyball Championship title, this being the team’s third straight season as state champions; and

Whereas, championship play in volleyball demands individual strength, agility, and skill, as well as team play and good sportsmanship; and

Whereas, using these talents and attributes, Coach Jennifer Gravely and her players again showed both fans and foes alike that the Lady Flame’s winning of this victory, its twelfth state volleyball title, was no lucky accident; and

Whereas, the members of the championship team are team captain Abby McCollum, Stephanie Alexander, Emily Harper, Keni Abercrombie, Jennifer Spalliero, Lauren Williams, Chelsea Gambrell, Ashlyn Underhill, Kara Murrell, Cassie Gravely, Marlie Bryant, Ashley Campbell, Melle Morgan, Mary Willis, Rebecca Looper, Kara Morgan, and Jaclyn Williams; and

Whereas, standouts Keni Abercrombie, Stephanie Alexander, Abby McCollum, Ashlyn Underhill, Kara Morgan, Marlie Bryant, and Cassie Gravely added further luster to their team’s shining record through earning numerous individual awards; and

Whereas, in welldeserved tribute to her tireless dedication to her team, Coach Jennifer Gravely was honored as High School Sports Report’s AAA Volleyball Coach of the Year; and

Whereas, the General Assembly takes great pleasure in recognizing the young women of the Pickens High School volleyball team for leading with excellence both in the classroom and on the volleyball court and expects to hear of continued great achievements in the years ahead. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the House of Representatives, the Senate concurring:

That the General Assembly of the State of South Carolina, by this resolution, recognize and commend the Pickens High School “Lady Flame” volleyball team on its impressive win of the 2006 Class AAA State Volleyball Championship title and honor the players and Coach Jennifer Gravely on an outstanding season.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be presented to the principal of Pickens High School, Marion Lawson, and Coach Jennifer Gravely.
