2013 State FFA/4H Land Judging Information

The 2013 State Land Judging Contest will be held on Tuesday, July 9th, in conjunction with 2013 Farm Technology Days inBarron County, hosted by Alex & Mary Olson, Dallas WI. Prairie Farm FFA will serve as the host chapter for the soils contest.

General contest information:

  • The contest is open to any FFA or 4-H team from Wisconsin.
  • The Contest will have two Divisions: Senior and Junior.
  • Each Chapter can have one team entered in the Senior Division and be eligible to compete for a chance to advance to the National level.
  • The Junior Division is open to any member.
  • Members are eligible to compete at the State level four times only. Each Chapter/Club can enter several Junior level teams with one designated for team awards.
  • Individual contestant awards are open to all individuals in that division.
  • No graduates or members who have participated in the National Land Contest are eligible to compete.
  • Official scoring will be done as outlined in the handbook, “Soil Study and Land Evaluation in Wisconsin” found at

Registration is $25.00 per Senior FFA/4-H team and $15.00 per Junior FFA/4-H team.

ALL REGISTRATION MATERIALS ARE DUE POSTMARKED BY TUESDAY, JUNE 18, 2013.

Late entry after this date will result in a late fee of $50.00 being assessed.

Registration will start at8:00 a.m. at the Prairie Farm High School. A practice pit will be located on the school grounds – near the school prairie/FFA field (signs will be posted). Buses will board at 9:00 a.m. to be transported to the contest location, and students will be transported to the Farm Tech Days site following the contest. Advisors are needed for scoring and other leadership activities. Please indicate your choice on the enclosed registration form.Scoring will take place at the Prairie Farm High School.

We are located on Barron County Hwy F in the village of Prairie Farm, approximately 8 miles from the Farm Tech Days site.

Best directions—from south- Take I-94 to Menomonie, exit on toState Hwy 25 North. Follow Hwy 25 north to Hwy 64. Turn west (left) onto State Hwy 64, and follow to Dunn County Highway F. Take F north (right), and follow this to Prairie Farm, the school will be located on Highway F. (Google maps may take you to Barron County Hwy A, but this will be part of the traffic pattern for FTD).
