Notes:

What you buy and how much you spend on it is up to yourselves. However the things to bear in mind are these.

  1. Sleeping bag should be a 3 season one at least. No matter what time of the year it is, it gets cold at night. For Winter Camps we recommend taking hot water bottles and extra blankets.
  2. Light weight hiking boots are needed all year round. Not just for camp but all year round. The grass is always wet in the morning and in Spring, Autumn and Winter the kids feet just get soaked and cold. Also the camp mud wrecks trainers.
  3. A roll mat or other similar insulating device is required for sleeping on. The kids will get well cold at any time of the year if they just sleep on the ground sheet. The ground will just suck the body heat out of them.
  4. Water proofs are essential for obvious reasons. Best to buy the breathable water proof fabrics. Also remember to reproof them if/when you have to wash them. You can buy the reproofing materials at any outdoor shop.
  5. Travel in Scout Uniform. Unless we state otherwise this rule always applies. The kids stick out like a sore thumb in public as it really gets them noticed. (Something they no doubt don’t like). However they are so much more safer by being conspicuous and the general public is much more likely to help them if they end up on their own.
