2011 JH Track Team Rules and Information

1. Attendance. You are expected to be at practice just like any other sport you participate in. If you know you are going to be absent or late please inform Coach Sieben before

practice. She will inform Coach Schneider. Do not inform another coach or have another

student inform her. If you attend school that day and do not attend practice, you will

need to bring a note from your parent or teacher explaining the absence.

  1. Unexcused absence. 1st instance: will miss next meet.

2nd Unexcused absence: dismissal from team.

b. Unexcused tardiness. 1st instance: extra conditioning. 2nd instance: miss next meet.

3rd instance: dismissal from team.

c. Detentions. Detentions are regarded as an unexcused absence.

d. ZAP cards. All junior high student athletes will comply with the HELPS program and will complete ZAP cards accordingly before practicing.

2. Daily Routine.

3:15-3:30. 1. Dress in locker room in gym. School-issued sweats will be worn at practice

and meets. Always wear to practice and meets. A determination

by the coaches will be made later in regard to whether they need to be worn or not that day. Personal sweats and coats are not allowed, unless needed on colder days as another layer.

2. Bring everything with you that you want to take home that night to the track. You willnot be able to return to the school building.

3. Report to bleachers in front of press box at football field for meeting and

attendanceeach day.

4. On bad weather days, listen for announcements and if we have

practice it will be held in the gym.

3:30-4:25 Junior High Warm Up, Agilities, Stretch, and Team Conditioning.

1 lap warm up. The purpose of this is get the body slowly warmed up.

This will also help loosen the muscles before we begin stretching.

Team stretching. Stretching is an essential element to track and field.

A properly warmed up athlete is less likely to get injured and more

likely to perform at their best. About 5 minutes.

Team Agilities.

4:30- 5:30 Practice time for all events. Follow workout schedule and be where you

are supposed to be. You will not be practicing every event each day.

Note: Do not practice events that you have no intention of participating

in. Many athletes have been hurt in this fashion. In other words, if you

don’t high jump, don’t be caught at the high jump pit doing that.

Subject to the track team’s discipline policy outlined below.

5:30- 5:45 Back to bleachers. Gather stuff. Wait for buses or leave if your ride is here.

Buses will pick you up at driveway at 5:45.

3. Training, Practice and Meet Rules.

a. Locker room and bathroom use. No junior high athletes are allowed in the locker

room at any time without permission. The concession bathrooms will be open for your use.

b. Leaving practice or a meet early. No one may leave a practice or meet early

without permission from a coach. A sign-out will be made available for parents to

take their athletes home after a meet. **Orange Crate in the Bleachers

c. Track Team’s Discipline Policy. Track practices, bus travel, and meets are an extension

of the school day. The school’s discipline policy will be in effect with a few changes. 1st instance: verbal warning. 2nd instance: miss next meet. 3rd instance: off the team.

Note: Self monitor yourself and your teammates at all times. You will be held

accountable for your actions and those of your teammates.

d. Public Displays of Affection (PDA) are not allowed at any time during practice or meets.

Strictly enforced. Subject to the track team’s discipline policy.

e. Tobacco, Alcohol, and Drugs. School handbook outlines this policy.

f. Jewelry. No jewelry is allowed in practice or at meets. Will lead to disqualification

at meets. National rule.

g. Events. Be expected to try and learn different events. You may be asked to do many

different events (including running or relays) as the team needs dictate. Sometimes,

we need emergency fill-ins.

h. Scratching. Under no circumstances are you allowed to scratch from an event without

permission from Coach Schneider, who coordinates all junior high entries.

i. Injuries. Please report all injuries to either Coach Schneider or Sieben. An athletic

trainer will be at Rock Creek on designateddays to see injured students.

j. Medical conditions. Keep the coaches informed of any medical conditions you have,

including the use of inhalers.

k. Attire. As mentioned before, sweats must be worn at all times. Heavier coats and

stockinghats may be worn on colder days. However, no arm bands, head bands, hats

and caps (baseball), etc. may be worn at practice, on the bus, or at the meets.

When competing in an event, all warm up clothes and stocking hats must be taken off.

l. Eating Habits. These things will have an effect on your performance. Avoid sweets and

drink plenty of water throughout the day. In particular, it is strongly recommended that you not drink soda pop. It will rob you of energy and dehydrates your body.

m. Positive Team Atmosphere. During practice and meets always support (cheer) one

another as they practice or perform their events. Negative comments will be not

be allowed and will be subject to the track team’s discipline policy.

n. School-issued uniforms and sweats. All athletes are responsible for checked out materials

Numbers will be recorded at the beginning of the season. Any lost articles will

have to be paid for at the end of the season.

o. Cell phones/Ipods. NO CELL PHONES at practice or at meets. Keep them in your duffle bag and use only as needed to notify parents of practice/meet information. NO IPODS at practice. You may use them on the bus at meets. We are not responsible for lost, stolen or damaged items.
