A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LOWER RICHLAND DIAMONDS GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE CLASS 4A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP ON FRIDAY, MARCH 3, 2006, AT THE COLONIAL CENTER IN COLUMBIA.

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly were very pleased to learn that the Lower Richland Diamonds girls basketball team won the Class 4A State Basketball Championship on Friday, March 3, 2006, with a thrilling 56-53 victory over Dorman High School; and

Whereas, this great win gave the Diamonds their third State Class 4A Girls Basketball Championship title since 1994 and cemented the Diamonds’ position as one of the premier girls high school programs in the State; and

Whereas, under the able leadership of head coach Debbie Stroman and with a strong group of freshmen and sophomores among the leaders of the team, the Diamonds are positioned to return to the Colonial Center to play for the state championship for several years to come; and

Whereas, this outstanding group of young women finished the 2005-2006 season with a 26-3 won/loss record including impressive wins over both strong in state and out of state teams; and

Whereas, the performance of the Diamonds, both on and off the court this season, has brought deserved credit and recognition not only upon themselves and their coaches but upon their school and community as well; and

Whereas, the members of the General Assembly, by this resolution, would like to extend their heartiest congratulations to the Lower Richland Diamonds girls basketball team upon winning this truly deserved championship. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate, the House of Representatives concurring:
