A SENATE RESOLUTION

EXPRESSING THE GRATITUDE AND APPRECIATION TO MRS. DORIS B. WRIGHT, ASSISTANT COUNTY LIBRARIAN OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, FOR HER EXEMPLARY PUBLIC SERVICE TO CITIZENS OF SPARTANBURG COUNTY, AND EXTENDING VERY BEST WISHES FOR A LONG AND FULFILLING RETIREMENT.

Whereas, with mixed emotions, the members of the Senate have learned that Mrs. Doris B. Wright, Assistant Country Librarian for Spartanburg County, is retiring this year. She was born in Huntersville, North Carolina, attended North Mecklenburg High School, graduated from Erskine College with a double major in English and history, and received her Masters of Library Science at Rutgers University, where she was a member of Alpha Kappa Gamma; and

Whereas, in 1967, Mrs. Wright was hired by Spartanburg County as a reference librarian and on August 29, 1972, married Edward T. Wright; and

Whereas, she rose steadily through the ranks and was named Head Librarian of the Reference Department in 1979, was promoted to Administrative Services Librarian in 1987, and then promoted to her current position of Assistant County Librarian in 1991. For a short time in 2000, she also served as interim county librarian; and

Whereas, this lovely and gracious lady has received numerous distinctions, including a certificate from the South Carolina State Budget and Control Board, the status of “Able Toastmaster” from the Toastmasters International, and perfect scores on her performance evaluations; and

Whereas, Doris B. Wright has served above and beyond the call of duty throughout her career in the Spartanburg County Library and has preformed a great service to her community and State; and

Whereas, the members of the Senate, by this resolution, would like to recognize Mrs. Doris B. Wright for her exemplary career with the Spartanburg County Library upon the occasion of her retirement. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate express their gratitude and appreciation to Mrs. Doris B. Wright, Assistant County Librarian of Spartanburg County, for her exemplary public service to citizens of Spartanburg County, and extend very best wishes for a long and fulfilling retirement.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Mrs. Doris B. Wright.
