A SENATE RESOLUTION

TO CONGRATULATE THE LAMAR HIGH SCHOOL VARSITY FOOTBALL TEAM AND THEIR COACHES, HEAD COACH J. R. BOYD, LINEBACKER COACHES MARSHALL KING AND ALAN POOLE, OFFENSIVE LINE COACHES CHARLIE POOLE AND JEFFREY HOPKINS, DEFENSIVE LINE COACH DON POOLE, RUNNING BACK COACHES DOUG COLLINS AND LEON MCDANIELS AND WIDE RECEIVER COACH CASEY WAITES, ON WINNING THEIR FIRST CLASS A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, COMMEND THEM FOR THEIR EXTRAORDINARY DEDICATION, DETERMINATION, AND HARD WORK THROUGHOUT THE 2002 SEASON THAT ENABLED THEM TO CAPTURE THE CLASS A STATE FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP TITLE ON SATURDAY, DECEMBER 7, 2002, AT WILLIAMS BRICE STADIUM, AND TO WISH THEM EVERY SUCCESS IN ALL OF THEIR ACADEMIC, ATHLETIC, AND FUTURE ENDEAVORS.

Whereas, the game of football affords young people the opportunity to learn the importance of dedication and teamwork while developing amazing athletic talents; and

Whereas, becoming a champion in this sport requires every member of the team and coaching staff to have special leadership skills and physical prowess, as well as a finely honed ability to communicate effectively on the field; and

Whereas, using these talents, in concert with pure drive, determination, and countless hours of hard work, the members of the Varsity Football Team of Lamar High School had an outstanding season with only one loss to Class AA Cheraw High School; and

Whereas, with an outstanding performance from a top notch team and the superb coaching of Head Coach J.R. Boyd, the Lamar High School Varsity Football Team was known for its defensive skills and only allowed one team to score more than thirteen points all season; and

Whereas, the team continued its winning defensive prowess throughout the playoffs, finishing the season with an exceptional 141 record, and emerged victorious as the Class A State Champion by defeating Lake View High School on Saturday, December 7, 2002, with a score of 2112; and

Whereas, with this magnificent season and outstanding victory, the 2002 Lamar High School Varsity Football Team won its first State Championship; and

Whereas, it is with great pride and immense pleasure that we recognize the physical and mental abilities of these young South Carolinians and hope that they will use those skills both on and off the football field and in their future endeavors. Now, therefore,

Be it resolved by the Senate:

That the members of the South Carolina Senate, by this resolution, congratulate the Lamar High School varsity football team and their coaches, head coach J. R. Boyd, linebacker coaches Marshall King and Alan Poole, offensive line coaches Charlie Poole and Jeffrey Hopkins, defensive line coach Don Poole, running back coaches Doug Collins and Leon McDaniels and wide receiver coach Casey Waites, on winning their first Class A State Championship, commend them for their extraordinary dedication, determination, and hard work throughout the 2002 season that enabled them to capture the Class A state football championship title on Saturday, December 7, 2002, at Williams Brice Stadium, and wish them every success in all of their academic, athletic, and future endeavors.

Be it further resolved that a copy of this resolution be forwarded to Head Coach J. R. Boyd, of Lamar.
